FROM MY MOTHER’S KITCHEN
Hello, Friends,
I have saved from my mother's kitchen: a grater, a wooden spoon, and a rolling pin dating to the 1940s, and a few other implements. They rest in their own drawer in my kitchen. I open it now and then and remember the very skilled cook and baker, Elsie Winn, who handled these items, probably all her married life. She passed away in 1994.
Now you all know, my cooking hints are to be disregarded, but I heard one recently. Because the tip involves a wooden spoon, I expect my mom knew it. Did you? Please reply if I am the last to learn. Tip: Laying a wooden spoon across the top of a pot of boiling water can keep it from overflowing.
Now the news:
1. FWA brunch is this Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Country Club. DeAnna Buckingham is in charge.
Don't forget to bring $1 for the monthly raffle; the pot is up to $44 (would probably boil over if not for a wooden spoon on top!)
We'll have news of the latest activities, followed by Andrea Snow of OSU Extension with a hands-on demo of a jam-maker.
2. Membership Book is being worked on in April. Join now to be in the phone book. Dues are $30 for all and can be paid Saturday, no problem!
3. Coming May 15 at the Fire Department is a community meeting (attch). Meet at the station at 6:30 p.m.
Featured speaker is the Red Cross on disaster protection. Free smoke alarms will be available.
4. Coming May 23 is the Great American Cleanup. (attch) it is for all of Falconhead. Meet at the Pavilion at 9 a.m. to receive supplies and a cleanup suggestion.
Cathy Allen is in charge.
5. The rest of the attachments cover our FWA activities in April. What a month!
We served lunch at 3 high school golf tournaments, had a garage sale, supported the Spring Spruce up with mega volunteerism -- if ever our club proved its worth, April was it!
A thousand thanks to those who came forward to participate and help!
The garage sale netted $1,100 for FWA.
6. Also attached are some "keeper" stories that will be of long-term interest.
One of them is an update on the Weather Alert Team that our club has been sponsoring with supplies and encouragement.
Patti Snider is in charge.
Another tells the story of how 18 holes worth of golf cart trails came to be.
A plaque was recently put in the ground on #14 at the spot the trail system was finally completed.
The monument also cites our association and the men's golf association for 50 years of service.
Another story tells how our General Manager has personally reconstructed the FPOA office!
7. Well, we can go on and we usually do. Hope to see you Saturday at the FWA brunch! Children are always welcome.
