πŸ“£ Burlington, we need your input!

The City of Burlington will hold two community meetings on Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds this month.

Every year, the City of Burlington receives federal dollars from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to be spent through two programs: Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and HOME funds for housing investment. The combined total of the funding this year could be as much as $2.1 million. Burlington City Council guides how CDBG dollars are spent and a five-county Eastern Home Consortium board determines how HOME funds are spent. CDBG funding and goals for HOME fund spending are outlined in an Annual Action Plan that is adopted by Burlington City Council. Earlier in June, City Council heard public comment that there was a need to hold more opportunities for residents to learn more about how to apply for grants though the federal HUD and CDBG programs. There are two upcoming opportunities to do just that.

The two public meetings will be held to gather community input on the Draft Plan and on how to prioritize this funding for things like affordable housing, operations support for local 501(c)(3) non-profits, and local development/infrastructure projects in low- and moderate-income areas.

The meetings will be open-house style and held:

Collaboration is at the heart of progress. We are currently synthesizing the feedback and innovative ideas generated during the 2026 Housing Alamance Summit.

By bringing together diverse local voices alongside the proven strategies of our neighbors in Guilford, Durham, and Mecklenburg Counties, we are redefining what housing solutions can look like in Alamance County.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their expertise and perspective!

Did you wear purple today? We did!

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and our team is proudly wearing purple to bring visibility to a critical issue affecting our seniors.

Protecting our elders requires a collective community effort. Together, we can build a safer, more supportive community for everyone.

πŸ“Š More neighbors are reaching out for help.

In May, the NC-211 helpline got 61 more calls from Alamance County residents than it did in April. This shows a growing need for support in our community, but it also means many needs are still going unmet.

Here is what we are seeing:

πŸ”Œ Biggest Needs: Most people are calling for financial help, especially with electricity bills and rent.
πŸ“ Top Location: The majority of these calls are coming from Burlington (27215).

Right now, money and resources for financial assistance are limited, and we expect the need to keep growing this year.

If you or someone you know needs guidance, please keep sharing 211 as a starting point.
