Congratulations to the 141 individuals who received more than $420,000 through the Active Fund this cycle!

From all-terrain chairs and handcycles to rugby chairs and mountain bikes, these grants are helping people across 40 states pursue the recreation goals that matter most to them.

This cycle, 112 individuals received equipment grants and 29 received Try It First Grants, with nearly half receiving their first-ever piece of adaptive sports equipment.

Thank you to our generous donors, our Board of Directors for their matching support, and our partners at the Craig Hospital Foundation and Endless Highway for helping make adaptive recreation more accessible for individuals with SCI.

New York, thank you!💛💙

What an incredible night in New York. Sharing Best Day Ever with so many people who care deeply about access, inclusion, and community was truly special.

Thank you for showing up, for supporting, and for being part of this with us.

This week has been about more than a film. Alongside the screening, we’ve been partnering with the Axis Project on Trails for All, including tonight’s panel discussion on the future of access, recreation, wellness, and community. Tomorrow, we’ll continue with KrankCycle classes and adaptive off-road hand cycling in Central Park.

We’re excited to keep bringing Best Day Ever to communities across the country and working to make recreation more accessible for people with spinal cord injuries.

Trails for All isn’t just a moment, it’s a movement, and together with The Axis Project, we’re excited to launch this initiative in a big way!

This collaboration will focus on creating more opportunities for adaptive equipment users to experience New York City’s beautiful wooded trails, natural terrain, and outdoor recreation spaces that have historically remained out of reach for many people with disabilities.

We’re building a community to help foster inclusive recreation spaces and trail systems in New York, and will be calling on city leadership, healthcare providers, disability advocates, and adaptive fitness and recreation specialists to join us!

Click the link in our bio for more information. Registration for Friday and Saturday’s events is possible through the Axis Project app or by emailing [email protected]

We did it! 🙌 💙

Thanks to this incredible community, we officially reached our $100,000 milestone for the Active Fund.

Your support is helping fund life changing adaptive sports equipment this spring and we’re still pushing toward our goal of awarding $400,000 in grants this cycle.

Through June 1, every donation is still matched dollar for dollar by the KBF Board of Directors.

$50 becomes $100
$500 becomes $1,000
$2,000 can fully fund a $4,000 adaptive basketball chair

Just a few days left to maximize every matching dollar. Link in bio to donate!

Meet Erik Kondo, a wheelchair user, adaptive athlete, and innovator on a mission to make mobility more accessible around the world.

Through his work with DIY wheelchair prototypes and open source designs, Erik is helping people in low resource communities gain access to mobility, independence, and adaptive recreation opportunities. From shipping wheelchairs overseas to creating affordable wheelchair parts and designs, his impact is reaching far beyond borders.

And when he’s not designing wheelchairs, you can still find Erik using them on road races, marathons, and wheelchair hikes in the woods!

Big news!! 💙💛

We’re proud to partner with The Axis Project to launch Trails for All, a new initiative focused on expanding access to off pavement trails and natural terrain throughout New York City’s park system.

Building on New York City’s longstanding leadership in accessibility, this collaboration will focus on creating more opportunities for adaptive equipment users to experience wooded trails, natural terrain, and outdoor recreation spaces that have historically remained out of reach for many people with disabilities.

We are combining The Axis Project’s decades of ingrained knowledge of the needs of New Yorkers with our expertise in fostering inclusive recreation spaces and trail systems. Together, we are fighting for a New York where everyone has access to recreation.

And we’re kicking things off in a big way June 4-6, culminating with adaptive mountain biking in the most iconic park in the world, Central Park.

The Kelly Brush Foundation will be accepting applications for our annual Ski Racing Safety Equipment Grant until June 26, 2026. Over the past decade, the KBF has helped alpine ski program purchase thousands of rolls of b-netting, supported trail widening projects, and assisted with the purchase of other equipment critical for keeping training and competition courses safe for all racers.

These grants are all matching grants–meaning that any grant awarded by the Kelly Brush Foundation will need to be matched by the ski club. Clubs are eligible to apply for funding on a semi-annual basis. If you received funding in 2025, your next opportunity to apply will be in spring 2027.
