Tomorrow! 🌿 CVOEO’s 37th Annual Garden Day returns Friday, May 22, from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. at the Old North End Community Center in Burlington.

In partnership with 3SquaresVT, CVOEO will distribute free donated seeds and seedlings to help Vermonters grow fresh food at home and stretch grocery budgets through the growing season. Community members can also apply for 3SquaresVT benefits during the event.

This annual tradition is rooted in the belief that access to food, fresh air, and the ability to grow something of your own matters. Every year, Garden Day brings neighbors together around shared resources, generosity, and the start of a new season.

Thank you to Intervale Community Farm and Essex Westford School District for donating seeds and seedlings, and to Green Mountain Power for their generous support of this year’s event.

Available plants include tomatoes, peppers, squash, herbs, cucumbers, cabbage, broccoli, zucchini, melon, eggplant, and more while supplies last.

Fair Housing Month may be over, but the work continues. One of many highlights from CVOEO’s 2026 Fair Housing Month recap was Fair Housing Awareness Day at the Vermont Statehouse in Montpelier on April 1.

CVOEO’s Fair Housing Project joined the Human Rights Commission, Vermont to provide resources and information about illegal housing discrimination, speak with legislators and visitors, and advocate for stronger fair housing protections across Vermont.

As housing becomes increasingly tight and expensive, more Vermonters are facing illegal discrimination while trying to find or keep stable housing. Fair housing education, enforcement, and advocacy remain critical.

Kahlia Livingston, Fair Housing Project Education & Outreach Coordinator, and Jess Hyman, Associate Director of CVOEO’s Housing Advocacy Programs, delivered testimony alongside Big Hartman, Executive Director of the Vermont Human Rights Commission, during a joint hearing of the House Committee on General and Housing and the Senate Committee on Economic Development, Housing and General Affairs.

A Revolutionary Press was also on site, creating hand-set letterpress bookmarks for legislators, Statehouse staff, and visitors—offering a creative reminder that fair housing is a right worth protecting.

Governor Phil Scott also issued a statewide proclamation supporting the implementation and enforcement of fair housing laws.
