Velvet is feeling a smidgen sad today because we had to, once again, share the news that not a single adoption application had been submitted on his behalf.

This beautiful long-haired boy can be timid at first but, once comfortable, he is incredibly loving. He just needs someone to see past his initial shyness and give him a chance to shine.

Velvet has done beautifully with other cats after proper, slow introductions. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on prevention and vaccines. He is litter box trained, happy and healthy. If you're looking to adopt a shelter animal, please consider doing so from the Davidson County Animal Shelter. We've rescued animals from this facility in the past and would love to be able to rescue more but haven't been able to do so in quite some time due to a lack of willing/available foster homes.

Their adoptable animals are always spayed/neutered and those that can't be placed on the monthly surgery schedule are deemed "rescue only" to ensure they are pulled by responsible organizations that will promptly get the animals fixed and won't further contribute to irresponsible overpopulation.

This shelter does everything it can to adopt out as many lives as possible while working with VERY limited space and resources. Please help them and the animals they work so hard to save by considering DCAS when adding a beloved pet to your family!

Friends,

Remember earlier this year, when we worked for six weeks to help trap Bowser, an escaped shelter dog in Elon, on behalf of Burlington Animal Services? Well, while we spent time trying to rescue that stubborn pup and freezing our toe beans off as a result of the crazy snow and ice storms Mother Nature gifted us, we came across an entire feral cat colony on the property that needed our help as well! Our team worked hard to TNR all of the cats there and actually found indoor homes for a couple of the friendly babies that were out there.

The first cat we brought to safety was Marshmallow! We placed her in one of our foster homes while we provided her with much needed medical care and gave her time to acclimate to living indoors. She is now ready to find a forever family!

So, please, without further ado...

MARSHMALLOW!

Meet Marshmallow (aka Mushi)!

Looking for a quiet companion to share your days with? Meet Marshmallow! Better known as Mushi due to her squishy hamster-like face, she is approximated to be 3-4 years old and is the cutest girl you'll ever meet!

Marshmallow had a difficult start to life. She has severely impaired vision that was likely caused as a result of a congenital eye condition or an untreated upper respiratory infection before she was rescued. She also has an adorable, crinkled ear from a hematoma she suffered before she was trapped and brought to safety. Those little imperfections are just part of what makes her uniquely beautiful.

Despite everything she's been through, Mushi is incredibly sweet. She loves being around her people and is happiest simply sharing the same space. She's not a cuddly lap cat, at least not yet. Due to her poor eyesight, touch can make her nervous, so she prefers affection on her terms. We believe she'll continue to build confidence once she's in a home where she can spend more time with her family.

When she's relaxing, you'll often find her watching TV (her favorite show is Bear in the Big Blue House), lounging nearby while you go about your day, or tossing around her favorite catnip toy. Her eyesight certainly doesn't stop her from having fun!

Mushi's perfect home would be:
· A quiet home with no children.
· A home where she can be the only pet, as sudden movements from other animals can be scary for her.
· Someone who understands that trust is earned and is willing to let Mushi blossom at her own pace.

Mushi may not be the cat who greets every stranger with head bumps, but, for the right person, she'll be an incredibly rewarding companion. She deserves someone who sees beyond her disabilities and appreciates the gentle, funny, and resilient little soul she is.

If you've been waiting for a cat who will quietly become your shadow and remind you that love doesn't always happen overnight, Mushi might just be your girl!

Friends, This boy with the looooong legs and the sweet face gives actual hugs...GREAT, BIG, GIANT, COMFORTING HUGS. He is cat AND dog friendly yet he hasn't been snatched up??? What is even going on here?!
