URGENT! FOUND CAT!
This sweet cat was found by a Good Samaritan who contacted us for help. He had been running up to the residents of a local neighborhood, wanting to come inside. We headed out to meet them, scanned him and were absolutely elated to discover that he was microchipped AND that his microchip was actually registered!
The microchip company provided us with his owner's contact information and shared that he had been reported as missing this past March after escaping the safety of his indoor home which was roughly a mile away from where he was found!
Excited to let his worried owner know he was safe and sound, we reached out to them immediately to share the wonderful news. His owner had made a point to post him on local "lost and found" pet pages across FB as well, begging for help in locating her baby and we couldn't wait to reunite them!
Sadly, that excitement was quickly smothered when we finally heard back from the owner several hours later and discovered that she had gotten another cat and no longer wanted Brian back.
Her intention is to pick him up from us tomorrow and drop him off at the shelter (which we explained will not be feasible since the shelter will be closed and would require a surrender appointment to be scheduled first). She has made it clear that she cannot keep him indoors anywhere. Truthfully, we're worried that she may not actually pick him up as planned or, worse, that she may put him back outside.
We spoke with animal control officers and have explained the circumstances. They are unable to help over the weekend so Brian is currently sitting in a crate inside of our tiny bathroom at the office. Which, frankly, sucks.
Brian is a 2 year old, neutered male who seems very sweet and social. He is litter box trained and appears healthy. Brian is WONDERFUL with children and people. We don't know how he may be with other cats and, while he does appear to have lived with dogs at one point, we're not sure if was comfortable around them.
Are you looking to adopt a young adult cat into your family or even foster one? Please let us know if you may be interested in Brian! We'd love to place him with someone whom will give him the love he deserves.
