The Children’s Museum of Skagit County is a treasure and asset to this community.

Cate Anderson, Director for 23 years, has carried the organization through successful growth, along with a few big moves. CM opened in Mount Vernon in 2003, relocated to Cascade Mall in 2008, and in the current location at Burlington Plaza since 2019.

They serve anywhere from 65,000 to 75,000 visitors annually, including tourists from around the world. Along with multiple programs (check out their website) they have had an on-site preschool for 13 years.

The Children’s Museum of Skagit County is a place where children learn through play and exploration in environments designed just for them. The Children’s Museum also supports the community through the Help Me Grow – Skagit Family Resource Center and various special programs and events throughout the year.

We learned today there are some new interactive activities coming in the future that involves flight and possibly a challenge to break the Guinness Record of handmade paper snowflakes.

The Rotary Club of Burlington has been a supporter of the CM Skagit Kids Read Week since 2020.

Thank you Cate for your love of creativity and leadership!

What makes a Rotary meeting extraordinary? Today it was Students, Scholarships, and Sarah the Survivor winner!

Students from MVHS LUCHA Club presented and we learned they won the Northsound Peanut Butter Challenge collecting 661 pounds of peanut butter for local food banks!

Seniors from BEHS, Edwin and Bennett, two of our scholarship recipients, attended to thank us personally for helping them succeed and proceed with their education.

And the winner of our Survivor challenge was member Sarah Cleaver who is now the proud owner of a lovely wearable trophy - well done Sarah! And a big thank you to Doug Culver who headed up this challenge and entertained us weekly with updates.

In fond memory:
JEFF RASAR
July 21, 1958 – May 27, 2026

Jeff became a Rotarian in 2002 when invited to a meeting by Duane Stowe. He said he remained a member because of the work Rotary does which is meaningful and wanted to wake up in the morning to do good in the world.

Jeff served as Club President 2010/2011 and over the years has been active in several Rotary events.

In 1984 he became a professional Disc Jockey and for many years he served as the DJ for the Luck of the Irish fundraiser for the Y.E.S. program and other club events. He was also the DJ at the high school for many years at the Cancer Walk.

Jeff is a Paul Harris Fellow +8 and has given to the Rotary Foundation generously.

For multiple years, Jeff was the Club’s Scholarship Coordinator for Burlington-Edison High School scholarships which was very important to him.

Jeff also donated Seahawk tickets to our club’s auction each year and it was one of the most popular and large dollar items of our auction.

He was well known for his unique and extensive vintage Rock & Roll album and poster collection. Jeff loved to share the historic details related to his collection and shared examples with our club at a couple of our programs.

He graduated from B-EHS in 1976 and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas in 1982 with a degree in Hotel Administration. He worked for 15 years in the hotel industry. He also worked as a booking agent for Major Entertainment Service in San Jose, California. He returned to Burlington in 1996 and went to work at Wallace & Associates and worked for many years there before his retirement a few years ago.

Thank you to club member David Crane for bringing Jeff to our weekly meetings when he was not able due to his declining health.

WE WILL VERY MUCH MISS ONE OF OUR CLUB’S “CHARACTERS”…

Happy / Sad Rotary moment as we celebrate a true Rotary Family - the Cisneros. We are happy for them with their pending move out of State and on to greener pastures, but very sad for us 😢 as we will miss them very much. Not only have they given of their life energy to make us a better club they are genuinely nice people and much loved.

In honor of all they have accomplished over the past 10 years they were each awarded a Paul Harris for their high integrity of service and dedication.

Lincoln and William (future Rotarians) were honored with their Paul Harris as they have been attending meetings from a very young age and faithfully participated in many work parties over the years. They have stacked wood, weeded, carried rocks … the list is long! Thank you for all you have contributed.

Tricia and Peter we appreciate you so much! The list of what you have contributed to make our club a success is lengthy. Words of appreciation seem inadequate, but please know it’s not just what you have contributed that we will miss, what we will miss beyond measure is the pleasure of being in the company of your beautiful selves.

Thank you and bless you in the next adventure in your lives! ♥️

This morning we got to hear from Marie Carlson, Interim Executive Director of Social Impact for the YMCA. They are committed to improving our community by giving people of all ages and walks of life the tools they need to succeed and ensuring that all feel a sense of belonging. Check out the link that shows the variety services and partnerships within our community that they are connected to. We are ALL encouraged to show up how we can - helping create safe space and engage with our youth and young adults, washing dishes or doing laundry, cook, donate, etc.
