Big news from UVMMC Support Staff United and Vermont Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals, after 6 months of bargaining and a strike authorization vote, they won major improvements to safe staffing, greater pay equity, additional safety protections for members, and the foundation for ongoing common good work! 3,300 Support Staff and Technical Professionals at UVM Medical Center have been in contract negotiations since April. Yesterday, UVMMC management presented their “last, best and final” offer, packaging a set of proposals that included numerous “take backs” or contract language that would weaken existing protections for safe staffing and job security. Thousands of workers have already pledged to strike if necessary. This take it or leave it approach from management has led to the bargaining team unanimously deciding to ask the membership to authorize a strike in order to stand up for safe staffing and quality patient care.
