The Plein Air competition is on in Burlington and Gin Lammert chose to paint the Starker-Leopold Bluff & River atmosphere from the front porch. She did a great job of capturing the foggy morning. The exhibit of the works will be Sat. Aug.15 at the Murray Gallery on the SCC campus. Sales begin at 5 pm.

Shane, Winry & Sirrah had a good time at the Leopold School Prairie last Saturday cleaning up and looking at new plant growth; the wild blue indigo blooms are beautiful right now. Learning plant and pollinator relationships was so much fun that they wanted to do it again this coming Saturday!

So, we'll do another volunteer day this Saturday, May 23 at 9 AM to do more clean-up. Just bring gloves and clippers.
We will have tarps and trucks to load up last year's stems.

Prairie Work Day! This Saturday, May 16 at the Leopold Intermediate School Prairie Classroom. Its time for some spring clean-up at the prairie! We'll meet for a few hours on Saturday morning at 9 am. Rain day the following Saturday morning. Bring gloves and clippers. We will have tarps and trucks. This is easy clipping of dead material for removal. Hope to see you there!

Please join us for an evening with Dr. Douglas Tallamy, New York Times bestselling author and advocate for native plant gardening and conservation. Dr. Tallamy will be speaking on how we can improve our backyards for pollinators and birds. It's this Friday at the Capital Theater from 6-7 pm. This is a free event presented by the Burlington Public Library, DMC Master Gardeners & LLA co-sponsoring.

Happy Earth Week to our Leopold Friends!
We are celebrating by planting Green Dragon and Jack-in-the-Pulpit seeds harvested from the property last year.
LLA is excited to announce that we have received 2 matching grants: $25,000 to reduce the mortgage on the Starker-Leopold House and a $65,000 grant directed to the development of the "Discovery Barn" into a multi-use facility. We are grateful to our donors and volunteers who have suppoted LLA. Please consider helping LLA into this new era of conservation education with a donation. Thanks from all of us at LLA
