North American Shugendo

North American Shugendo Experience peace, gain personal insights and clarity, and develop personal power through the ancient Japanese spiritual way of unifying self with nature.

Shugendo is a tradition of spiritual practices handed down over the last 1500 years with earlier roots. Shugendo syncretized in ancient Japan as a blending of Esoteric Buddhism, old indigenous Shinto shamanism, and Taoist mysticism and magic imported from China. Our tradition extends in an unbroken family lineage dating back to 648AD . Shokai Koshikidake is the 72nd head or "Soke" of the tradition

. Northeast Koryu Shugendo is a branch of Shogakusan Kannonji, the head temple located in Yamagata, Japan. The original practices of Koshikidake Koryu Shugendo have been preserved by the Koshikidake Family and are the oldest remaining tradition of Shugendo in the world. Soke Koshikidake has opened the tradition to foreigners which is very rare for most ancient secret family traditions. Northeast Shugendo is the branch responsible for disseminating these practices to interested people in the New York, Boston, and greater Northeast United States Areas.
