Heineberg Community Senior Center The Center is recognized in the community as a vibrant and valuable resource for adults. The Center is completely handicapped accessible.

The only senior center in Burlington, VT - providing free programming, food, health and wellness activities, and educational classes to older adults since 1971. The mission of the Heineberg Community Senior Center is to promote healthy aging by providing an opportunity for socialization and productive use of leisure time, to create an environment where individual differences and needs are recogniz

ed and to develop quality programs and services which will contribute to the meeting of those needs, and to serve as a bridge to other services for those 50 years and older. We welcome and celebrate diverse cultures, and honor our many differences within our population. We provide a variety of programs and services to adults 60 years of age and older. We serve as an informational resource to our community. Many of our programs are free of charge.

So incredibly proud of all the Heineberg folks who showed up at last night’s City Council meeting. You shared what the Heineberg means to you: a place to keep bodies and minds healthy, a place to gather with friends, a place to eat good meals and take home fresh food, a place to build bone density and friendships, a place to express creativity, a place to learn, a place to laugh together. As our name says, a *Community* Senior Center. Thank you all for being part of this vibrant community. 💚💚💚

What a fabulous day! The rain and clouds blew away and the sun came out. Chilly, but sunny. Several dozen walkers tried out the new BHS track - it is very springy! A big thank you to Burlington High School for welcoming us to the new campus. The building looks beautiful!

Thanks to all of our participants, group leaders, volunteers, neighbors and local business sponsors, we *exceeded* our $8,500 goal, with donations totaling $9,700 so far. With a few more donations headed our way next week, I think we will tip the $10,000 mark. THANK YOU!!

Tomorrow’s the big day - our annual Walk of Ages fundraiser! T-shirts are here, helium tank acquired (what happened to Party City?), banners ready to display.

Come join us for a lap or two around the track at Burlington High School, beginning at 9:00 am. We’re on target to reach our goal of $8,500 to support our free programming and services for older adults - came help us meet (and surpass) that goal!

Thank you, Mascoma Bank! Sharing a delicious , homemade meal with friends nourishes both body and spirit. We are so grateful for your support. 💚

As Burlington's senior center, Heineberg Community Senior Center provides community, meals, programs, and a place to spend time with friends for hundreds of older Vermonters.

“The grant from Mascoma has supported our twice-weekly free, homemade lunches for older adults. Over the past four months, with the help of Mascoma funding, we have been able to increase our maximum seating from 25, to 30, and then to 35. The older adults who participate in our free lunches receive fresh, nutritious food at a time when groceries are increasingly expensive, and they also enjoy the social connection of sitting together, sharing a meal and conversation. Loneliness can be debilitating for older adults, so the socializing is just as important as the nutrition!” - Chittenden County Senior Citizens Alliance.

Today, I honor the mothers who raised us — and the mothers we are now caring for. The ones who once held us, guided us, and protected us… and the ones we are now parenting in ways we never imagined.

Granny, you were a mother in every sense of the word. This disease may have changed so much, but it will never erase who you are or the love you poured into our family.

Parenting your parent is one of the hardest, most heartbreaking acts of love. It’s gratitude and grief living side by side. It’s remembering who they were while caring for who they are now.

To every caregiver walking this road today — you are seen. Your love matters. Your sacrifices matter.

Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers we have, the mothers we remember, and the mothers we are learning to love in a whole new way.

Week 2 of Painting Our Stories with Julio Desmont brought focus and experimentation to the fore. Julio encouraged everyone to relax and paint like a child. “There are no mistakes.”

Gratitude to the VT Arts Council for the Creative Aging grant supporting this project.
