Come share the joy of Juneteenth with the Y! We're going to participate in the City of Burlington, Vermont 05401 USA City of Burlington's celebratory event tomorrow during the Community Tabling portion of the day, 1:00-3:00pm on The Church Street Marketplace in front of City Hall. At the Y, everyone is welcome and strengthening community is our cause.

We don't know if you've noticed, but there's a lot of talk about menopause (finally!). But is there a workout that's more effective than another for people in menopause? According to a recent article, there are basic tenets that hold true for women in this stage of their lives including:
๐Ÿ’ช Progressive strength training
๐Ÿšถ Weight-bearing movement
๐Ÿ’ƒ Aerobic exercise
๐Ÿ’ฏ Consistency

Don't let the packaging fool you -- it's not a menopause-specific workout that's most helpful. It's the basics, done routinely, that help preserve bone density and improve balance for the long term.

We're so excited to be swapping out our cardio equipment for all new models to improve member experience. At the same time, we recognize that this will create closures on our Wellness Floor and parking lot. The turf and studios will still be accessible, and parking off-site is recommended. Questions? We've been in Burlington for 160 years. We provide child care so members can work or workout, free exercises classes like Spin and Yoga included in membership, state-of-the-art equipment for all ages, and two pools and a sauna in our natatorium. We're more than just a gym, we're a place where everyone is welcome.

It's going to be hot this week, and we want you to still get in your workouts (nice air-conditioned Y, anyone??).

If you've ever been curious if sweating more during summer exercise is a sign you're working harder, a recent NYT article has your answer. Plus, there are important tips about safety and hot-weather exercise:
* A 2% body weight loss due to sweating out fluids during exercise can cause athletic and cognitive abilities to decline
* Working out consistently helps your sweating response to be more efficient
* STOP if you experience ANY symptoms of heat exhaustion -- dizziness, headache, nausea, chills or inability to urinate
* Make sure to hydrate starting several hours before working out
