We are so close to reaching our Heart of the Trail Campaign goal!

We are deeply grateful to those who have already donated to help us get closer to reaching our $1.3 million campaign goal.

⭐ We have only $75,000 left to raise! ⭐

This is a critical investment in the CTA community to ensure our world-class backcountry trails and terrain are protected for future generations and remain accessible to all Vermonters.

Will you help us close the gap? Any support, large or small, will help us reach our goal and begin the important and exciting work this campaign will make possible.

We're already putting your Heart of the Trail donations to work with a new Trail Easement on Section 15!

This past week, the CTA secured its first easement as part of the Heart of the Trail Campaign. The easement is located on a historic portion of Section 15, at Blueberry Hill Inn. This is a critical connector that links the Catamount Trail to the Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center and was the last remaining piece of unprotected trail in this area, now creating a continuously protected corridor from Section 15 through South Lincoln on Section 17. This section not only has a special connection to our Catamount Trail founders but also builds on the legacy of their conservation efforts.

❄ Thank you to our landowners and donors for supporting important efforts like this to protect the Heart of the Trail!

As winter comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to look back on another great year of Youth Programs!

Throughout the season, CTA staff packed up skis, boots, and gear and traveled across Vermont to bring cross-country skiing directly to students at their schools.

For many students, our School Programs are their very first chance to try skiing. This year, we provided in-person instruction at thirteen schools and supplied gear to ten others to use with PE and classroom teachers. We partner with districts that otherwise would not have the resources or access to the sport.

By turning school grounds into ski trails, it's possible for more students to experience skiing close to home.

We also work with multiple grade levels, from 3rd grade all the way to high school, so students can build their skills year after year. They get to ski with friends and classmates while discovering that winter recreation can be part of their regular school day.

Our flagship Ski Cubs Program provided gear and transportation for over 80 students on Saturday mornings at Catamount Outdoor Family Center. Watching their growth from the first session to the last is always one of the highlights of this program.

“It was amazing to see the progress made over 5 sessions! So sweet to believe we may have had a part in promoting a lifelong love of the sport.” - Deb Weizenegger, 2026 Ski Cubs Volunteer

A huge thank you to the volunteers, teachers, and school partners who help make these programs possible and show so many young Vermonters the joy of skiing each winter!

❄ Help us protect the Heart of the Trail! ❄

The CTA community has accomplished much in our 40 years as an organization. Today, we have what is perhaps a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build on that legacy and finish trail protection work on an iconic core of the Catamount Trail from Blueberry Hill Inn to the von Trapp Family Lodge, while also investing in the next generation of skiers and riders through Youth and Community programs.

To make those ambitious goals possible, we have launched the first capital campaign in the CTA’s 40-year history: the Heart of the Trail Campaign.

Thank you to those who have already donated to help us get closer to reaching our $1.3 million campaign goal.

❄ We now have under $100,000 left to raise! Will you help us close the gap? ❄

Help us protect the Heart of the Trail!

The Heart of the Trail campaign is a critical investment in the CTA community to ensure our world-class backcountry trails and terrain are protected for future generations, and are accessible to all Vermonters amidst a changing world.

Together, we can:

❄ Take advantage of a unique opportunity to fully protect the “Heart of the Trail” from Blueberry Hill to von Trapp Family Lodge and ensure permanent access to some of Vermont’s most treasured mountain landscapes, while bolstering trail protection statewide.

❄ Implement trail improvements and high elevation backcountry zones to make backcountry skiing more climate resilient.

❄ Expand access to skiing and riding and foster the next generation of backcountry skiers and riders in Vermont by investing in the sustainability of our youth and community programs and opening a welcome center at a new CTA office along the Heart of the Trail.

Thanks to the commitment and support or some of the CTA’s long-time donors, board members, and supporters who have made early gifts to our Heart of the Trail Campaign, we are over 90% of the way to our $1.3 million campaign goal.

We have just $110,000 left to raise – you can help us close the gap!

We hope you’ll consider a gift to help us reach our goal and begin the important and exciting work this campaign will make possible.

We had so much fun at Wintervale! We love sharing the joy of winter and skiing by providing access to free cross-country demo gear at community events like this.

Our volunteer CTA crew not only got over 50 people on skis, but Kinsley and MaryClaire also led a group tour around the Intervale Trails - a great local resource for outdoor activity in the Burlington area.

Our favorite part of the day? Getting people who have never skied before out on gear! The cherry on top is seeing their smiles when they arrive back and ask us how to do it more! 😊

❄ A big thank you to Intervale Center for having us join the festivities, and to our amazing volunteers!
