Mission: TeachOut’s mission is to create a supportive network of LGBTQ+ Vermont educators that is diverse, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable. Statement of Purpose: TeachOut’s purpose is to (1) develop community; (2) share resources; (3) build capacity; and (4) amplify voices of LBGTQ+ educators whose identities have been traditionally marginalized in schools, particularly educators who identify as transgender, nonbinary, QTPOC, Indigenous, and/or disabled. Vision: The vision of TeachOut is for a state-wide Vermont school system where LGBTQ+ educators are included and supported. At TeachOut VT, we believe in elevating and centering the voices and experiences of our diverse LGBTQ+ family: we embrace disabilities, neurodiversity, multilingualism, and racial diversity. We acknowledge and actively work to dismantle the harm of anti-blackness, racism, and colonialism. If you’re looking for the LGBTQ+ education network in Oregon called “UOTeachOut,” they’re doing fantastic things, too! We have a similar name but are not part of the same organization. You can find their website at https://uoteachout.com/. TeachOUT VT is supported with funding from the Spencer Foundation, the Northern Vermont University Working Learning Communities Grant, and the Northern Vermont University President's Fund. TeachOut's research was made possible (in part) by a grant from the Spencer Foundation ( #202000175).
