Great news from the Dept of Health and Human Services (HHS)! A proposed new Affordable Care Act (ACA) regulation will soon ban discrimination in health care, marks a historic milestone for health equity.

The new reg will prevent many types of discrimination in health care, including but not limited to:
• Doctors refusing to treat patients because of patients’ gender identity
• Hospitals turning away patients who do not speak English
• Discrimination based on race, age, disability, or pre-existing conditions

These regulations are now open for public comment until November 9. We encourage advocates to submit a formal comment to HHS to help shape these new anti-discrimination regulations.
