The academy
The World Academy Outdoor Activities is a foundation that strives to provide the fullest outdoor sports personnel training in all World. Our goal is for every trainee to expand his knowledge and abilities about outdoor activities and outdoor life, especially in demanding conditions. Our certified partners will initiate you in this unique world! The outdoor activities take place in some

of the most beautiful and untouched locations in Europe, but also in busy city centers, such as Barcelona, London and Athens. Each training takes place at a different area, depending on the time of the year and the local climate, often with the help of assistants, as well as the appropriate governing bodies of travel, tourism and education. World Academy Outdoor Activities is open to train participants from any country in the world. Each academy accepts only a limited number of trainees, in order to provide a high standard of education. The activities that are provided under World Academy Outdoor Activities are mountaineering, hiking, rowing, canoe-kayak, but also concept activities centered around children (for example, man’s responsibility to nature). Some of our programmes may require special skills, such as winter camping experience, ski touring, rowing, etc. The main language of the academy is English, so understanding and speaking English is essential. However, in some cases and after previous communication, our trainers may speak the trainees’ language. After the completion of each school, the participants are certified with the academy’s diplomas.

Paragliding is a sport in which the players fly in the air using paragliders. These paragliders are light in weight and are foot launched. There is a harness in the glider on which the paraglider sits. This harness is interconnected to the glider with baffled cells. We will learn various aspects of this adventurous in the chapters that follow.

To compete in this sport, the player must have adequate license for paragliding and all other related documents present with him before the competition. The distance covered by the player is transformed into points through computer in IGC format.

A Brief History of Paragliding
The passion of paragliding was started by Garvit Sharma, who designed advanced gliding parachutes. Later in 1961, it was modified technically and soon the phase of para commander started. In the same line, sail wing was modified by David Barish which was used for recovering NASA space capsules. After 1980’s, equipment started to modernise and this sport got a new dimension.

World’s first paragliding championship (unofficial) was organised at Switzerland in the year 1987. Soon after that Federation of Aeronautic International (FAI) sport gave official nod to paragliding and organised first official world championship in Kossen, Austria in 1989.

Participating Countries
PMA (Paraglider manufacturer association) published an interesting fact according to which currently there are 1, 27,000 paragliders all over the world. The sport has its huge fan following in Europe, followed by Asia and Latin America.

The countries that participate in this sport include Japan, Germany, Australia, France, New Zealand, Switzerland, South Korea, Brazil, China, Mexico, Taiwan, USA, India, Canada, Indonesia, Russia, Malaysia, and South Africa.

Paragliding – Environment
Paragliding demands jumping from high heels and to ski in the air for long hours. Therefore, a hill station having a stiff peak and a wide area for surfing in the air will be a suitable environment. If it will be played in any normal crowded area, then it is obvious that the user will face difficulty while paragliding.
The area must also be free from any airline path so that the player should not face any emergency landing system due to an airplane approach. Adequate safety and protection must be taken care of before flying so that player can fly comfortably for long hours.

Choosing your carabiners and quickdraws
Features of Petzl carabiners
Fluid interior design
The fluid interior design of Petzl locking carabiners limits the risk of having a catch point and facilitates rotation of the carabiner.

H-shaped cross-section
The carabiners have an H-shaped cross-section that ensures an optimal strength/weight ratio, protects the markings from abrasion, and offers excellent handling, even when wearing gloves.

Keylock system
To ensure optimal efficiency, all Petzl carabiners use the Keylock system: the body/gate interface does not have a hook that could snag on anchors, ropes, harness equipment loops...

Equipment
Quick Links, Screw Links, Maillon Rapide
In this category you may find pear-shaped, delta-shaped, half-round, oval and rectangular quick links (maillon rapide). Quick links have a body with an opening, which has a screw cap on the one end and a thread opposite. By means of the screw cap the quick link is securely closed.

Quick links are commonly known as screw links and under the French terms maillon or maillon rapide. Whereby "maillon" is the word for chain link and "rapide" indicates that the chain link can be closed "quickly" if necessary.

Screw links are often used for climbing, especially for industrial climbing. When using the single rope technique, quick links can be used to create secure connections, to connect the rope to an anchor point or as a cost-effective alternative for a carabiner if it must be left hooked in. Speleologists, paragliders, and event technicians also rely on maillons rapides.

Quick links differ according to the material used, their design, size, opening gate width and strength. Depending on the combination, screw links have different static strengths. However, they regularly exceed the breaking loads of carabiners by far. Screw links certified as connectors according to EN 362, which may be used as personal protective equipment, have a minimum static strength requirement of 25 kN in the main axis and 10 kN in the secondary axis. The manufacturer's specification is only valid in closed condition. Bending loads on the bolted element must be avoided.

In the Kanirope Shop you will find maillons rapides in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Material of the quick links we offer is usually steel, either as galvanized steel or as stainless steel.

Safety and rules
Do not learn to fly a full size kitesurfing kite on a beach or any other land - this is the most dangerous place to fly your kite. If you are a novice, take lessons and head out into the water at a safe location to learn.

Safety practices
Regularly check your safety releases by releasing them with no kite attached.
Don't ever use a board leash (except possibly in large surf for experienced riders). Learn to body drag upwind to recover a lost board.
Practice and be proficient at self rescue before you really need to use it
Avoid going out in conditions above your ability. Until you have at least 30 hours on the water, 25 knots is the maximum wind you should go out in. If in doubt, don't go out.
