📣We're excited to share some wonderful news for Southeast Iowa!📣
United Way of Southeast Iowa has officially been awarded the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Medical Transportation Grant, allowing us to continue and expand our volunteer-driven medical transportation program throughout Des Moines County.
Over the past year, this program has become a lifeline for older adults and individuals with disabilities who need dependable transportation to medical appointments. Thanks to our incredible volunteer drivers, more than 25,000 miles were driven last year, helping neighbors access dialysis, cancer treatments, physical therapy, routine appointments, and other essential healthcare services.
This new funding means we can continue providing these critical rides while growing the program through additional volunteer recruitment, increased ride capacity, and expanded support for residents facing transportation barriers.
"We are incredibly honored to receive this grant and continue serving our community through the RSVP Medical Transportation Program," said Megan Brincks, Executive Director of United Way of Southeast Iowa. "Every mile driven represents someone receiving the medical care they need. Our volunteer drivers don't just provide transportation. They provide independence, peace of mind, and hope."
We're also looking ahead to the future. United Way of Southeast Iowa is excited to begin partnering with organizations in Lee County to help establish and expand volunteer medical transportation services there as well. Our long-term vision is to build a coordinated regional transportation network that serves patients throughout the Great River Health System and beyond, making healthcare more accessible no matter where someone lives.
"We believe access to healthcare should never depend on whether someone has transportation," Brincks added. "By expanding into Lee County and continuing to grow throughout Southeast Iowa, we're building a stronger regional network that connects people to the care they need. This is just the beginning." 💬 — Megan Brincks
We're always looking for compassionate volunteer drivers who want to make a meaningful difference in their community. Volunteers receive training, mileage reimbursement, flexible scheduling, and the opportunity to positively impact the lives of their neighbors.
