The Cambodia Academy, founded in April 2004 by Foster City, CA Rotarian Hans Eide, is located in a rural area within the Banteay Meanchey Province in northwestern Cambodia. The school provides a rigorous Khmer and English-based elementary and middle school education in grades 1-9 for some of Cambodia's poorest children. After having been both touched by the genuine kindness of the locals and yet u
nsettled by the widespread poverty suffered in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and Khmer Rouge era, Hans led efforts to turn an underutilized building into a thriving school in a region where education in neither compulsory nor affordable for the poorest families. Breakfast and lunch are prepared by on campus by a dedicated staff of 5, ensuring that students will at least have two routine meals per school day. We are a California 501(c)(3) charity, dependent on Rotary grants, club donations and support from individuals to continue our work. All contributions are tax deductible to the extent of US law. We take no percentage for our expenses—all contributions are 100% passed through to pay teachers, maintain the campus, and provide for the children. We also provide additional support, including web support, fundraising, and donor outreach, but we can’t do it alone. Our primary sponsorship level is US $295 per student per year. This funding level helps partially cover:
*campus operating expenses
*teaching salaries
For the student, it specifically covers:
*A year of tuition
*Two uniforms
*Meals
*If needed, transportation to campus
We have made room for 330+ students but we still need sponsors for over 100 of them.
