Our mission is to compassionately address the issues of hunger and food insecurity within our community by providing free, healthy groceries to those in need. We serve families and individuals in San Mateo County. In 2015 CALL began operating as an independent 501(c)3 corporation. What began as a telephone information and referral service is now a drop-in food pantry, providing grocery assistance
, along with emergency aid information and referral services to low income individuals and families in need.
•Over the past thirty years thousands of people in need have come to CALL for assistance.
•CALL Clients range from those who are actively working, but finding the high cost of housing outpacing their earnings, to seniors on a fixed income and unable to make ends meet. Roughly three percent of those who come to CALL are homeless - living in vehicles, on the streets or in shelters.
•Financial and in-kind donations are received from private foundations, businesses, service organizations and various city grants. Additional support comes from the generosity of individuals, schools and congregations within the community. CALL’s administrative costs are kept low, to ensure that the support we receive goes a long way in helping others. CALL’s pantry is filled BY the local community and distributed TO the local community. Over 38,000 bags of groceries are distributed by CALL each year, including non-perishables, fresh produce, meat and dairy products.
