Today, CCFD CERT members participated in a hands-on moulage workshop, practicing techniques to create realistic injuries for emergency training and exercises.

Members learned how to simulate wounds and other injuries while building the skills and experience needed to grow our CERT moulage team and support future trainings and exercises across the program.

Another great opportunity to learn new skills, get creative, and strengthen our training capabilities!

Tonight, over 20 CCFD CERT members came together for our August team meeting, featuring program updates, networking, and hands-on Stop the Bleed training.

Members practiced critical bleeding-control skills throughout the evening, with an emphasis on:
🩸 Proper tourniquet placement and use
🩹 Wound packing techniques
💪 Direct pressure and pressure dressings
🚑 Applying trauma/emergency bandages
👐 Hands-on practice responding to life-threatening bleeding

Members also heard a first-hand account from Troy C., who shared his experience applying a tourniquet during a real-world emergency—reinforcing the importance of knowing how to act quickly and effectively when every second counts.

The hands-on training gave members the opportunity to practice these lifesaving skills and build confidence to act when every second counts.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for another great evening of training, teamwork, and community preparedness!

What a great weekend at Burlingame on the Avenue! CCFD’s Fire Prevention staff, CERT volunteers, and A and B Shift engine crews connected with hundreds of residents and visitors throughout the weekend.

Visitors learned more about fire safety and emergency preparedness, spun our prize wheels, and picked up giveaways. Kids also had the chance to climb aboard the fire engine and take a closer look.

We appreciate everyone who stopped by to see us and the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce for organizing another great event!

The 2nd Annual CCFD Teen CERT Boot Camp is officially a wrap!

Nearly 30 teens completed the remainder of their training this morning before putting their new skills to the test during an afternoon disaster simulation. Supported by a team of nearly 30 volunteers, participants worked through a simulated post-earthquake environment, practicing hands-on skills in light search and rescue, fire suppression, disaster medical operations, emergency communications, and teamwork.

Thank you to our Teen CERT participants for staying engaged, working together, and stepping up to help build a more prepared community. We are also grateful to Engine 35 and the many volunteers who gave their time and expertise to make this program such a success.

A special thank-you to Fire Chief Pucci, Hillsborough Vice Mayor Ragsdale, Millbrae Mayor Rainaldi, and Hillsborough Councilmember Chuang for joining us and supporting the next generation of community preparedness leaders.

🚨 Tonight, more than 40 CERT members from across our three cities/town, as well as neighboring communities, packed the room for our July CERT Team Meeting!

CCFD CERT Coordinator Kaz Chiao shared recent program updates, upcoming events, and a high-level review of our new CERT membership pathways and future opportunities.

Members then took part in the debut of our Emergency Communications training, covering the 9-1-1 system, post-disaster information flow, radio communications, and how neighborhoods can help build a common operating picture for decision-makers.

The evening concluded with Operation Neighborhood Connect, a hands-on exercise where teams rotated through simulated neighborhoods, responded to changing scenario injects, synthesized information, and practiced reporting by radio to Net Control.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening a success!

It was a pleasure to provide fire extinguisher training tonight for local residents and members of the Burlingame Hills Improvement Association (BHIA) and Burlingame Neighborhood Network (BNN).

Participants learned the basics of fire chemistry, when and how to use a fire extinguisher, the P.A.S.S. method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep), and more! They also had the opportunity to practice their skills during a hands-on live fire exercise.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and took another step toward keeping your homes, families, and neighborhoods prepared!

CCFD CERT was out supporting the City of Millbrae’s July 4th festivities at Central Park today with a CERT booth to connect with residents, share emergency preparedness information, and invite visitors to spin our prize wheel for a chance to win a giveaway.

We also partnered with Millbrae Recreation to support the cooling center, helping attendees stay safe, cool, and hydrated throughout the day.
