Hi! It’s me Willie! I am the most famous dog here and I bet some of you will remember why but I will remind everyone else. I got kicked in the throat a few years ago by an a-hole (don’t tell mommy I said a bad word). It split my trachea open going against the grain which caused air to get under my skin and I looked like a big puffer fish. No one knew how to do the surgery to repair it. Burleson called every surgery center in the country and they all turned me down including the veterinary college at Texas A&M. Finally one of you guys told mom about a vet in England who had a patient with the exact same problem and was able to repair it successfully. Mommy called to ask if she could bring me there for the surgery but the vet said I could not fly with this particular injury. She offered to do the surgery by Zoom call with Burleson and they agreed so here I am! I am a miracle!! Because I am so special mommy picked me to tell you that we would like to skip $5 Friday this week and ask for dog food instead. We are expecting a very cold winter and we want to try and stock up on food for the local strays. The links to order food are in the Linktree in our bio. Thank you for helping!❤️

Every day I am grateful to be able to help the helpless and it is only because of you that I can do that. I have three stories for you today of dogs that got the help they needed thanks to you. The first dog is Sugar. Sugar was one of three dogs that belonged to an elderly couple. The man passed away sadly. The woman was going into a nursing facility and their daughter was battling cancer so the dogs really had nowhere to go. There were three dogs there who were 15, 5 and 2. Another rescue contacted us and asked if we could take the older dog and they would take the younger ones. We agreed. When they got the younger dogs they quickly learned that they were unsocialized and asked if Adam could work with them to calm them down. He agreed and I went and picked up two very scared, bitey dogs. After weeks of working with them daily he can now hold them and pet them. Today we were able to get the five year old dog spayed and get her teeth cleaned. Pyometra will never be an issue for her thankfully. The younger one will be spayed next and then they should be able to return to the original rescue. The second dog pictured is Jazzy. Jazzy lived with an elderly person and when that person died she guarded the body for many days until the death was discovered. Jazzy has a very large mammory mass which will be removed tomorrow when she is spayed. She had bloodwork today and is good to go for surgery tomorrow. Lastly is a face you might recognize, Evelyn. She was spayed recently, had a very large mass and a polycystic tumor removed. Today she was to have her stitches removed but unfortunately a section of the surgery site had not healed so she went back under anesthesia to have it closed up. All three of these dogs will have healthier, longer lives thanks to you. Give yourself a hand!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Every day in senior rescue is a surprise. We unfortunately got a tough surprise over the weekend. You may remember twenty year old Minnie that was surrendered to us by the mother of her owner who had died along with his other dog Chavelle. Recently Minnie hasn’t seemed to feel her best. Over the weekend I noticed that her ear looked wet. Closer inspection revealed a large tumor in her ear. We took her to Burleson where it was discovered that she had a tumor in the other ear as well. One of the tumors has blocked the ear canal and pressure from the infection was more than likely causing her to have a migraine headache. Sadly, we don’t know how long this was going on. She had emergency surgery last night and seemed much better today. Unfortunately this depleted our rescue funds so the two surgeries that are scheduled for tomorrow will be postponed. This type of situation makes me think about the millions of strays and how they must suffer when these things happen and there is no one to help them. I wish the world was kinder to animals. I hope I am making a difference but will always wish I could do more.

Hi! I am Bonita. Two weeks ago my “family” dropped me off at a kill shelter for the cardinal sin of being old. My teeth teeth are rotten, there is a raging infection in my mouth and mom says because I am not spayed I could get something called Pyometra. She took me to the vet this morning for something called “surgery” that should make me feel better and keep me safe from infections that could end my life. I was so nervous I had explosive diarrhea all over mom, the car and moms new purse. Mom was on a conference call trying to sound all professional while cleaning up voluminous amounts of poo. I decided I should get out of her way so I walked all through it and then jumped in the back seat and did it again all over the beds in the back seat. Mom said it’s going to take a fire hose to get it all out but she said it’s okay and I’m cute so I don’t really think she’s mad. She said frustrated is a better word. I also spilled an entire glass of water but that seems kind of minor now. Anyway, mom said you are all helping me get better with $5 Friday so thank you! Mom will let you know later how I am. Until then please pray mom can successfully remove the smell that I left in her car.

I try to take the dogs out in small groups to fun events so they get all of the attention. Recently I took Cheese and Stevie to a rummage sale. They got lots of attention from many people there and I think they had fun! Tomorrow is $5 Friday and we have Bonita going in for surgery. Her teeth are terrible. I want to get her feeling better so I can take her on an adventure before it gets cold here. This morning I was thinking about how much I appreciate all of you and the help that you give us to be able to change their lives so that they can enjoy getting out and being the center of attention. I was also thinking about the many hidden costs that we manage such as vaccines and prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. The cost can be staggering at times but somehow it always works out thanks to your generosity. We are also very lucky to have a vet in our corner who truly cares about the animals and is always willing to work with us. I am also grateful for other rescues that share supplies with us and connect us with low cost providers that they know of. It truly does take a village! 🐾💕❤️🐶

Elvis was scheduled to start physical therapy today but there was a mix up on the date so he is starting next Tuesday. He could barely contain his excitement at this delay. We went to Chick Fil A instead and got an ice cream and then he took a long nap while I answered my emails. It was the perfect afternoon as far as we were concerned!

Today I took three dogs to Fuzzy Texan Animal Rescue and one of them was the South Texas dog Ellie. I have had over 200 inquiries about how to adopt her so if you are interested go to the Fuzzy Texan website and complete an adoption application. I also took a tiny Terrier and the sweetest Chihuahua. These dogs are all wonderful and will make fantastic additions to any family! And then we got a surprise! Our friends at another rescue called us about a darling 3.5 year old male Yorkie/Maltese that needed a safe place quickly because the owner was threatening to euthanize him. I asked Fuzzy Texan if they could take him and they agreed so I drove a long way to get him but I am so glad I did! What a sweetie! So four lives saved and four lives given the chance to start over. It’s a small thing but it sure does feel good! I can’t wait to see your adoption photos! 🐾❤️💕🐶

Hey! It’s Izzy. I have a bad earache do mommy took me to the doctor this morning and I am glad she did. I got my ears packed and some medicine so I will feel all better soon. Thank you for donating so I could go to the doctor right away. Mommy and daddy took Brooke and Abby to the park for a ride in their wagon and Evelyn wanted to go too. Doesn’t dad look thrilled to be being dragged around the lake? Mom says she is feeling so much better after her surgery. Mommy is still not feeling well and today was a rough day but dad is trying to help. We need her to feel better ASAP. Dad is nice but he’s not mom. For instance, he doesn’t understand that we need Dairy Queen after our walk. He will learn. Resistance is futile!

She’s here and she is absolutely adorable!! In the short amount of time thst she has been here I have observed a few things The first is that she is initially fearful of other dogs but gets comfortable around them fairly quickly. There are so many strays in that area fighting for food that I am sure she had to defend herself at times. I have also noticed that she flinches if you reach out to touch her. It also appears that she has had puppies at some point. She is a very sweet, gentle girl and I am going to make sure she is set up to have the beautiful life she deserves. You all submitted so many wonderful names! We put them all into a drawing and our neighbor selected the winner. Please meet Ellie everyone! We have two rescues looking for a foster for her so when that is sorted I will let you know. Its all up from here on sweet girl!

I did something kind of unexpected yesterday. A lady reached out to me from Edinburgh, Texas asking for help for this dog. She had been abandoned in a very dangerous area where there are a lot of coyotes and people who are not necessarily kind to animals. Honestly, the border towns are terrible for dogs and the rescues in that area work tirelessly to get the animals out. I have always been reluctant to take any dogs from there because there is a lot of disease in that area but I did agree to help this girl and quickly arranged transport. She arrives tonight and I am working on finding her a rescue in this area. I just could not stand the thought of her running house to house trying to find some food or shelter and of her being out at night with all of the predators. I am picking her up at 5:30 and hope to have her in a partner rescue by weeks end. Now she just needs a really cute name!
