This month, here at 25:40, we are rolling out a 90 day matching grant challenge. A match you can be a part of!

After much prayer and discussion, we believe God is leading us to begin a new chapter in Canzibe by adding a grade 1 by January, 2026 in the first of what we hope will be a complete k-12 school. Our goal is to raise $40,000 to get our new school off the ground.

We regularly help kids in our aftercare with their homework and tutor those who need it most. We were approached by several caregivers of our preschoolers who begged us to start a grade one. They witnessed first-hand the quality education their children received at our preschool and were heartbroken to see it end when they entered public school. This goal is overwhelming, but God is asking us to trust Him and rely on His strength and wisdom. So this is a story about a new beginning. A story of hope for a class of 5 year olds who dream of learning to read and write and experience the love of Jesus. This is about transforming the minds and hearts of our preschool children as they begin studies in grade 1 and pour into them to give them a solid foundation of faith and learning. Where they will be loved, cared for and poured into as they develop into the full potential of who God created them to be.

More will be shared in the coming months about how we’re going to accomplish this, but for now would you be willing to help us meet our goal?

This is Zandile Mkwasi. Zandile (Zan-dee-lay) leads our work at Nomadolo. She’s responsible for overseeing the aftercare program and also coaches soccer and netball teams. Having a female leader has been such a blessing for us and those she cares for. Life can be difficult for young girls and women in the Eastern Cape. Zandile is an excellent role model and pours so much into the children’s lives. It’s encouraging to know the young boys and girls are seeing a woman who’s in charge and leads so well!

Food insecurity is still a very real problem in many areas of the world, today. In South African, the rate of malnutrition is rising dramatically, with the Eastern Cape being the poorest province in South Africa. Recent studies have shown that more than 1,000 children were diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition in the Eastern province alone. Malnutrition is not just being hungry; it is life-altering in its impact as it stunts growth, amongst other possible long-term impacts. We at 25:40 cannot solve the hunger problem, but we can do everything possible to see that the children in our care are getting enough to eat. Here is how we have been working to address issues concerning malnutrition...

- every child that attends one of our five Aftercare programs gets a free, nutritious meal

- Every student at our preschool gets breakfast every day

- When we encounter a home in need of food,
we give them a box of staples that will last a month

- We are blessed and grateful to have partnerships with organizations like The Lunchbox Fund that provides food for us to distribute to those in need

- Teaching children how to garden, helping them
learn to grow vegetables

Being the hands and feet of Christ means showing compassion for physical needs as well as spiritual ones. When you support 25:40, you are partnering with us as we care for these precious children. You may not be there physically, but your support allows us to serve on your behalf. Thank you for helping us serve 🤍

Merry Christmas Eve!

As we close out the year, we would like to share a few stories of how our ministry has made an impact this year. We believe that God uses humble means and imperfect people to tell His bigger story, so we would love to tell you one of them.

This young lady is named Uminam. She is smiling because she recently learned to read! She is very proud of her certificate that she earned for excellence in English, a result of the help she received at our 25:40 Aftercare. There are many others who through the significant effort of our staff are reaching new levels of academic achievement. Tutoring is a big part of our Aftercare programs. Many children struggle for years in school to master the basics. We walk alongside these children and help them with the special attention and training they need. Praise God for this success and His faithfulness!
