Patch-Work Politics, The daring story of Mrs. Bertha Knight Landes, who in 1926 became not only Seattle’s first woman mayor, but the first woman mayor of any major metropolitan city in the United States!

This event is free, AAUW kindly asks that you donate $10 to the organization to help offset charges, and will happen at the Highline Heritage Museum on June 13th at 2pm, in the main gallery!

Since 1987 N.W. Storyteller/Actress Debbie Dimitre has been entertaining, inspiring, and educating audiences of all ages with her historical and dramatic storytelling presentations. In costume and by the glow of her kerosene lamp, Debbie brings to life women and young girls in American history through story and first person portrayals in a style that is uniquely her own.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) is proudly hosting this event in partnership with the Highline Heritage Museum. AAUW empowers women and girls by championing their success in higher education and pushing for bold policy solutions to create lasting change. For more than 140 years, AAUW has led the fight for gender equity in higher education and beyond. With a strong record of advocacy and action, AAUW continues to break barriers and defend the rights of women in education and the workplace.

WHAT IS HISTORY? Is it something that happened many years ago? What about five minutes ago? History is happening all around us, every day.

Yesterday, the City of SeaTac hosted its State of the City Address at The Roadhouse by Angle Lake Station. The event, themed “Ready to Welcome the World,” also served as the seasonal grand opening of the SeaTac Farmers Market and featured live music, food, community resources, and giveaways.

Moments like these become part of our shared community story — the history we are creating together. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZLx6koANOo/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

Today's Date in History
June 4th, 1919

The Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the United States and its states from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of s*x, in effect recognizing the right of women to vote. The amendment was the culmination of a decades-long movement for women's suffrage in the United States, at both the state and national levels, and was part of the worldwide movement towards women's suffrage and part of the wider women's rights movement. The first women's suffrage amendment was introduced in Congress in 1878.
