Burgaw Lions Club

Burgaw Lions Club
Our Motto is our Mission. Lions serve. It’s that simple. Vision - Hunger - Disaster Relief WE SERVE. LIONS HAVE A DYNAMIC HISTORY. LIONS GIVE SIGHT.

With headquarters in Burgaw, North Carolina, we are part of the world's largest service club organization. Lions Clubs International has more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world. Being a Lion is about leading by example, building relationships, and improving the world through kindness. Founded in 1917, we are bes

t known for fighting blindness, but we also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects - including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry, and aiding seniors and the disabled. By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward their mission of providing vision for all. We have extended our commitment to sight conservation through countless local efforts and through our international SightFirst Program, which works to eradicate blindness. LIONS SERVE YOUTH. Our community projects often support local children and schools through scholarships, recreation and mentoring. Internationally, we offer many programs, including the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Camps and Exchange and Lions Quest. Our Leo Program provides the youth of the world with an opportunity for personal development through volunteering. There are approximately 144,000 Leos and 5,700 Leo clubs in more than 140 countries worldwide. LIONS AWARD GRANTS. Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded more than US$700 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world. LCIF was also ranked the number one nongovernmental organization in a 2007 study by The Financial Times. LIONS HELP DURING DISASTERS. Together, our Foundation and Lions are helping communities following natural disasters by providing for immediate needs such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies – and aiding in long-term reconstruction.

🚨 PLEASE SHARE: Emergency Food & Resource Drive Continues!
Our community is showing up in a big way — and we’re keeping the momentum going through the end of May.

This Saturday, May 30th • 10 AM – 2 PM, you can donate in person at:
👉 Food Lion – Rocky Point
👉 Piggly Wiggly – Burgaw
👉 Pender County Museum - 200 W. Bridgers Street

Donation Drop Off Sites:
- Pender County Housing Authority - Monday - Friday, 9am -3pm
- Pender County Museum - Thursday & Friday, 1 - 4pm

We are also accepting monetary donations. If you can’t make it out to buy supplies, a financial gift still makes a direct impact — every dollar goes toward purchasing emergency items for families preparing for hurricane season.

Your support fuels the Emergency Food & Resource Drive, helping our Pender County neighbors access groceries, hygiene products, and basic essentials. 🥫

We’re proud to partner with Rocky Point Boy Scouts Troop #249 to make sure these resources reach the people who need them most.

Every donation — big or small — strengthens our community and reflects the Lions’ commitment to service, compassion, and care.

💛 Thank you for helping us support Pender County families.
Let’s finish this month strong.

🦁 What a whirlwind few days for our club! From street parties to school screenings, your Burgaw Lions have been busy serving Pender County. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to:

Springfest Friday Night: We had a blast at the street party! Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a cold glass of our famous lemonade and iced tea. Those baked goods went fast—thanks for supporting our local service projects with every bite!

Springfest Saturday: The weather might have been gray and rainy, but our Lions were out in force to bring the sunshine! Even though the crowds were smaller, the spirit of service was huge.

Health Screenings: On Sunday, we supported our friends at the Willard Outreach Community Center for the Care Access Health Screening event & yesterday, we headed over to Heidi Trask High School 😊 We were honored to provide vision screenings for our hardworking middle and high school student-athletes. Ensuring our youth can see clearly is a cornerstone of what we do!

🌟 Big Things Are Coming!
We aren't slowing down. We have some exciting volunteer opportunities hitting the calendar very soon. Whether you’re interested in disaster preparedness, food drives, or helping us with our vision mission, we want YOU to be a part of the pride.

👀Want to make a difference in Burgaw? Keep your eyes on this page! We will be posting ways you can jump in and help us serve.

⚠️WINTER WEATHER UPDATE FROM Pender County Emergency Management:

‼️We have not seen a weather system with over 5” of snow since 1989. Plan and prepare now for you, your family, Pets & Pipes because this is an event most (99%) of us have never worked in our lifetime. There will be one area in this storm across SE NC that will see the fire hose effect of snow with 12”-15”+ inches.‼️

⚠️NEW UPDATES:
➡️Winter Storm Watch has been upgraded to a WINTER STORM WARNING effective 1 AM Saturday, January 31st.
➡️A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of the area tonight through early Saturday evening. An Extreme Cold Watch remains in effect for early Saturday evening through Monday morning.
➡️Snow onset is trending earlier (Saturday morning)
➡️High confidence in extremely cold air for the area this weekend, creating significant, rare wind chills.
Increasing confidence for significant snow and associated impacts.
➡️High confidence in hazardous winds and seas for the coastal waters over the weekend, creating dangerous conditions for mariners.

⚠️DON'T FORGET THE 5 P’s:
✅People – Dress warmly, limit exposure to extreme cold, and check in on your friends, family, and neighbors.
✅Plants – Bring sensitive plants indoors or protect them from freezing.
✅Pets – Ensure pets have warm shelter and are not left in cold conditions.
✅Pipes – Insulate exposed pipes and allow faucets to drip when needed.
✅Portable Heater Usage – Use heaters safely, keep them clear of combustibles, and never leave them unattended.

‼️Stay tuned to the Town of Burgaw Facebook and website at burgawnc.gov for additional updates and important information regarding this weekend's winter storm event. Stay warm and safe!
