Long post but a must read:
Last year, I was in a local theatre production when I went through a profound experience that no one ever wants to witness or go through themselves. A close colleague, and friend, suffered from a heart attack on stage right beside me while doing what she loved. One moment was full of singing and dancing and the next was nothing but suffering and panic. There was no defibrillator in the building or near by. What took place in 15 minutes felt like hours of waiting to get help.
We were so lucky to have health care professionals in the audience who jumped on stage and immediately started to perform CPR while others called 911. They restarted her heart before EMS arrived but soon she was taken to the hospital where her life was saved.
Heart disease affects everyone. Even today it is the number #1 killer and we all have to be proactive to fight this disease. You don’t have to have a large platform to be part of the movement. We can all educate, advocate, and practice heart health in our daily lives. Will you join me?
The American Heart Association’s slogan is “Life is Why.” My experiences, family, friends, and life are my why. What’s yours?
