Let’s get real, your first therapy session might feel a little awkward.
1. You might not know what to say.
2. You might second-guess yourself.
3. You might even wonder if it’s “working.”

All of that is normal.

The first few sessions can feel a little awkward, uncertain, or even emotionally mixed. That doesn’t mean it’s not working; it usually means you’re just getting started.

Therapy is a process. You’re building trust, figuring out your goals, and learning what this space can be for you.

I’m collaborating with Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation to help make therapy feel easier to understand.

Not every therapist is going to be your person… and that’s okay.

Therapy isn’t just about credentials, it’s about connection! The right therapist should feel like someone you can open up to, feel understood by, and grow with over time.

If something feels off, you’re allowed to trust that. And if it feels right, you’ll usually know that too.

Therapy is a journey, and so is finding the right type of therapist. Don't get discouraged. If one therapist doesn't work, keep trying. The right therapist for you may be just around the corner.

It isn’t easy finding the right match for anything, and therapy is included on that list.
Some people get lucky and meet the right one immediately, and others have to try several therapists before they find the right fit.
Here are some facts:Credentials are very important but connection matters more.

A good therapist should make you feel heard, respected, and safe enough to be honest. And just like any relationship, it’s okay to take a little time to figure out if the fit feels right.

Identifying green/red flags, and questions to ask, can help you make a more informed decision.
Understand that finding the right therapist is a process, don’t rush the journey and accept that it may take some time to find the perfect fit.

Want therapy but worried about the cost? You’re not alone. The financial side of therapy can feel confusing. It’s so much to consider: insurance, copays, deductibles, sliding scale… it’s a lot.
But there are options - Insurance benefits, sliding scale spots, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), and community resources can make therapy more accessible than many people realize.
Consider this your quick guide to navigating the financial side of therapy.Be sure to save this video when you are considering therapy to assess how it not only fits within your lifestyle, but within your budget too!

So you’ve decided to try therapy… now what?Google? Insurance portal? Ask a friend?YES… all of the above.
Directories, EAP through your job, referrals, and insurance searches are all legitimate starting points. Whether you choose online or in-person therapy, it’s all about what works best for you.
You don’t need the “perfect” search strategy. You just need a starting point.
I’m collaborating with Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation to help make the therapy process less confusing.

CBT. DBT. EMDR. Somatic. Couples therapy. Family systems. What does this all mean?!

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all! And many approaches look at more than just the individual.

Some modalities focus on thoughts and coping skills. Some help process trauma stored in the nervous system. And others, like couples and family systems therapy, explore relationship dynamics, communication patterns, and the roles we carry in our interpersonal relationships.

You don’t have to know exactly which modality is “right.” A good therapist will help you figure that out together.

I’m collaborating with Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation to make therapy feel more accessible and less overwhelming.

What really happens in therapy?
It’s not awkward silence.
It’s not being judged.
And you don’t need a perfectly organized story.

The beginning phases of therapy focuses on what brought you in, what you’re hoping for, and therapist taking time to really get to know YOU. From there, therapy becomes a space to explore patterns, build skills, and feel supported.

🗣️Share with someone who’s been curious about starting therapy.
⬇️Save this as a reminder that the thought of starting therapy can feel more vague than it actually is.

Do I need therapy?🤨

Many people wait until they’re in crisis before reaching out, but therapy isn’t only for emergencies.

If your emotions feel overwhelming, patterns keep repeating, or life just feels heavier than usual, therapy can be a supportive space to process your thoughts and emotions. You don’t need to be “in critical need” to deserve support.

I’m collaborating with Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation to help reduce stigma and increase access to mental health resources.

Save this if you’ve been wondering whether therapy might be right for you. 💝

Everyone may not need to engage in a traditional form of therapy, but everyone needs mental health support.

Stay around for this 12-week series as I will provide helpful information, resources, and tips to help you along the journey!
