With his longtime best friend Craig Tapella by his side, our friend and colleague Terry Baliel passed away on the morning of April 25, 2026.

Terry was a member of Local 706 and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. We would like to recognize his brilliant career as a legendary hairstylist in ALL aspects.

He started his journey in the Bay Area doing Opera, Ballet, Theater, Television, and Feature Films with a level of talent and knowledge that was unsurpassed. In 1987, he became a member of Local 706 and made the move to Los Angeles. He went on to be nominated many times and received 3 EMMY AWARDS, several GUILD AWARDS, and deservedly THE MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLIST LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. BRAVO!

Throughout his career, Terry also worked alongside A-list hairstylists Jan Alexander (THE PRESTIGE, INCEPTION), Carol Pershing (DEADWOOD), Gail Ryan (THE GRINCH THAT STOLE CHRISTMAS), and Carol O’Connell (JERSEY BOYS), to name a few. Some will recall seeing his beautiful work on Helena Bonham Carter for ALICE IN WONDERLAND on the cover of THE ARTISAN. WOW!

Many of us had the good fortune to work on Terry’s team, and we felt honored to be asked. He made hairstyling look effortless as his hands would glide, creating a masterpiece.

His quick wit and hilarious sarcasm inspired you to do your best work. He was a mentor to many. It has often been said by some that when they found themselves perplexed by a difficult hair design, they would consider... What would Terry do? Undoubtedly, his lessons and techniques will be passed on throughout generations.

Not only hairstyling, but EVERYTHING Terry did was beautiful, be it his cooking, gardening, or home decor, and especially Christmas!

Let’s share our “Tales of Terry,” and there are many! We are grateful for all he brought to each of us as Hairstylists and Makeup Artists, and to our industry. A Legend!

In remembrance of a good life well-lived and all the laughter too! May our dear brother Rest In Peace.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💛

Mental health matters just as much as physical health. As makeup artists and hair stylists, we spend so much of our time taking care of others that it’s important to make time to care for ourselves too.

Local 706 is committed to helping members access mental health and wellness resources. The Welfare Committee is also a great source of information and can help connect members with available support and services.

This month is a reminder that caring for ourselves and our mental health is an important part of living a healthy, balanced life.

Chris Fulton, a beloved artist, colleague, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of extraordinary talent, collaboration, and kindness that touched countless lives. Chris joined Local 706 in 2018 and quickly rose to the top of his craft, becoming one of the industry’s most respected and sought-after professionals. He worked across major feature films and television projects, including Jack Reacher, The Housemaid, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Minx, The Idol, and The Invite (released January 2026). He was frequently requested by actors who trusted his vision and valued his artistry.

His work earned him significant recognition, including an Emmy Award win for Fosse/Verdon, as well as a Guild Award for Fosse/Verdon. He also received additional Guild Award nominations and was nominated for his work on The Idol.

A bi-coastal member of Local 706 and 798, Chris cherished his communities in both LA and NY. Chris truly loved what he did. He loved his actors, loved being on set, and believed deeply in collaboration. He understood that great work comes from a team, and he made sure every voice was heard and contribution valued.

He had a lifelong appreciation for the arts. His talent earned him a scholarship to Marymount in New York for singing. While he first found his creative path in makeup, he later discovered that his true passion was hair, where he ultimately built his remarkable career.

Beyond his professional achievements, Chris was known for his warmth and humor. He made long days on set enjoyable with laughter and was loyal and genuine—once he knew someone was trustworthy, he would always be there for them. He had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel included.

Chris shared deep bonds with his family, especially his Aunt Beth and Uncle Dave, and his cousin Mckenna. In a profound act of love and generosity, Chris donated a kidney to his uncle.

Chris will be remembered as an incredibly talented artist, a generous collaborator, and a deeply good and trustworthy person. His impact on his craft and on the people around him will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Rizzuto, an accomplished Hair Designer and proud member of IATSE Local 706, which she joined in 1996. Linda was also a member of IATSE Local 476 in Chicago.

Linda began her career early, opening her first salon, Rizzi’s, in Chicago at the age of 22. She went on to build a remarkable career in film, television, and theater, working in roles including Department Head, Key Hairstylist, Background Supervisor, and Personal Hair Designer. She worked personally for legendary actors including Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon and often shared fond stories from her time with them as well as John Candy.

Her television work included Drive, Prison Break, Crime Story, Chicago P.D., and Late Show with David Letterman. Her film credits included The Day After Tomorrow, Eagle Eye, Backdraft, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Home Alone (1, 2, and 3), Gladiator, Uncle Buck, The Weather Man, Grumpier Old Men, and The Whole Ten Yards. Her theater work included celebrated productions such as The Producers, The King and I, and The Phantom of the Opera.

Family and friends were the center of Linda’s life. She loved being together with them, especially on holidays and during annual Super Bowl gatherings. She is survived by her siblings—two brothers and one sister—nine nieces and nephews, and nine great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.

Linda retired in the charming town of Romeoville and enjoyed long weekends in Michigan at her best friend’s lake house. She also found joy in repurposing furniture, gifting her creations to family and friends, traveling, and embracing life’s adventures. She adored her beloved Yorkies, Minnie and Tillie, who were constant companions.

Linda will be remembered for her extraordinary talent, warmth, generosity, and adventurous spirit. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched.

Richard Dean was a member of both IATSE Local 706 (in 1996) and 798 and was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He was based in New York and for many years lived in Greenwich Village, but upon retirement, moved to Brooklyn, where he loved his gardening.

With quiet humility, a true old-school gentleman in every aspect of his life and one of the most respected make-up artists, Richard Dean began nourishing his love for make-up artistry while in college.  He was enthusiastically involved in the theater department and after graduation, he moved to New York City and in his early days was part of the Saturday Night Live crew. He was soon snatched away from sketch comedy and drawn into the feature films, one of his first being The Cotton Club, then to Desperately Seeking Susan.

Richard’s career completely changed when he was hired as a substitute for another artist on Sleeping With the Enemy in 1990.  The film was originally be scheduled to be shot in Los Angeles, but when they changed to the Carolinas, the crew changed and Richard was brought in.  The camera tests brought results that the costume designer proclaimed to be the most beautiful Julia had ever looked.  It was the beginning of a partnership that lasted more than 14 films including My Best Friend’s Wedding, Stepmom, Nottingham Hill, Runaway Bride, Erin Brockovich, The Mexican, America’s Sweethearts, Ocean’s Eleven, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Mona Lisa Smile, Charlie Wilson’s War, Eat, Pray, Love and others. Not only was he Julia’s trusted make-up artist, but also for Madonna (Desperately Seeking Susan, Dick Tracy) Nicole Kidman (Far and Away) Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction), Uma Thurman ( Life Before Her Eyes, My Super Ex-Girlfriend) Demi Moore (IndecentProposal, The Juror) Tina Fey ( Date Night, 30 Rock) and actors Tom Cruise, Michael Douglas and Bruce Willis. Richard’s love of period films led him also to become a spokesperson for Max Factor Cosmetics when they realigned their brand to reflect old Hollywood glamour.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Camurynsky and close friend/caregiver Don Jolien.
