HON. UJAMBENG STEPHEN ANDONG: A PROFILE IN SERVICE, LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.
A Profile of a Civil Engineer, Community Leader and Regional Representative

Hon. Ujambeng Stephen Andong is a Civil Engineer, public works contractor, conflict expert and community leader who currently serves as a Divisional Representative for Momo in the North West Regional Assembly. He also serves as President of the Finance, Infrastructure, Planning and Economic Development Committee of the Regional Assembly. He is a native from Abebung village, Ngie Subdivision.
His academic and professional background cuts across engineering, conflict management and public service. He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Ibadan, an HND in Civil Engineering, and an MSc in Conflict Resolution from the University of Maroua. He is also a member of the National Order of Civil Engineers of Cameroon (ONIGC), a researcher in Conflict Management at the University of Buea, and a public works contractor.
Community Leadership
Beyond his professional career, Hon. Ujambeng has had a long association with community development, particularly through the Abebung Development and Cultural Association (ADCA). He has served the association in various capacities, including Youth Coordinator, Yaoundé Branch President and National President.
His community engagement has also extended to youth development and education. Between 2007 and 2008, he organized a series of educational meetings for Ngie youths in Bamenda and Buea under NYASO, during which books were also distributed in Buea. He continues to engage with the people on issues surrounding decentralization and the opportunities associated with the Special Status of the North West and South West Regions.
Development Initiatives in Abebung and Ngie
According to Hon. Ujambeng, some of the development initiatives he has facilitated or contributed to include the reconstruction of the Abebung Water Project, the electrification of Abebung, and the construction of two classrooms and an administrative block at GBSS Abebung.
He also initiated the construction of a second road bridge linking Nyibat to Aghemengwi, although the project was subsequently interrupted by the ongoing crisis. In addition, he donated equipment valued at FCFA 2 million toward the Ebang Water Project through the late Madam Ajuge.
These initiatives form part of what he describes as his broader commitment to improving basic infrastructure and supporting the social and educational development of the Ngie community.
His Vision for Ngie
Looking ahead, Hon. Ujambeng says his vision extends beyond individual projects to the broader development and administrative advancement of Ngie.
One of his major aspirations is to see Ngie eventually become a full Division. He also envisions improved accessibility to the area through strategic road corridors, including Ebang–Menka, Angong–Batibo, Teze–Widikum, and Etwii–Tinechung–Njikwa.
He further expresses the hope that the number of villages in Ngie could eventually grow from the current 19 to 24, 25 or even more, describing this as one of the developments that would give him a deep sense of fulfilment.
A Message to the People of Ngie
In his message to the people of Ngie, Hon. Ujambeng emphasizes lawfulness, respect for state institutions and support for community leadership.
He particularly calls on young people to remain resilient despite the difficulties facing the community and the region. His message is centred on prayer, hard work, respect and perseverance, with the conviction that difficult periods can eventually give way to better opportunities.
“Let us be law-abiding and respect state institutions, respect our leaders and support them so that they can work for us with peace of mind. I advise Ngie youths to be resilient. Though times are hard, one thing is sure: there comes a day for breakthrough. Be prayerful, hardworking, and respectful.”
Hon. Ujambeng Stephen Andong continues to combine his professional background in engineering with community leadership and public service, with his stated focus on infrastructure, development, peace and the advancement of the people of Ngie and Momo Division.
