🚲 Update! SC Bicycle Safety Stop Bill 🚲

The SC Senate passed bill S.812, which would make bicycle safety stops legal (these are also known as “Idaho Stops”). Big thanks to our senators! Now it goes to the SC House's Education and Public Works (EPW) Committee. That meeting is TBD.

👋 In the meantime, please let our Charleston-area EPW Committee members know you support this bill! You can find their contact forms on our Get Involved page, as well as more detail about the bill itself 👉 charlestonmoves.org/get-involved

The bill requires a person on a bicycle to come to a full stop at a red light, but allows them to proceed when the intersection is clear and safe. The bill also allows a person riding a bicycle to treat stop signs as yield signs, slowing down and yielding to traffic before continuing when safe to do so. 🛑🚦

We like this bill because it simplifies existing laws, is backed up by national data, and we're sick of motorists running us off the road at stop signs and sensors not detecting us at red lights.

The Altrusa Club of St. Augustine's "Birthday Backpacks" for our March birthday celebrations arrived last month.

A big thank you to Zac and Marci for remembering our campus children’s birthdays each month. Each backpack is filled with a new book, a stuffed animal, and a lap blanket! Our kids absolutely love receiving their birthday backpacks.

If you would like to support this wonderful project, please visit their Amazon wish list at www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3N00U32N96PIW. When checking out on Amazon, please sign the gift card so the Altrusa Club knows who to thank.

The Homeless Coalition is making a difference by providing homeless families with opportunities for stability, education, and a brighter future. Let’s come together to support their mission and create a community where every family has the chance to thrive.
