Fans of folk horror will enjoy this. The Last Sacrifice is a British folk-horror documentary directed by Rupert Russell that investigates the unsolved 1945 murder of Charles Walton, a killing that inspired the folk horror genre, particularly The Wicker Man. The film connects this real-life crime with the history of witchcraft in Britain, paganism, and the subsequent rise of folk horror in cinema, using a mix of true crime, archival footage, and horror film clips. It was released on Shudder in February 2024. Includes clips of Gerald Gardner. Margaret Murray, Ronald Hutton etc.
