K9 Service With A Twist

K9 Service With A Twist Check out our full story under Additional Information! K9SWAT.org is proud to have no administration salaries at this time.

K9 Service With A Twist was created to support the growing need for professionally trained service dogs in and around the San Antonio area…and to help prison inmates. A few years ago, while working for a large Service Dog organization, I witnessed firsthand the awe-inspiring, unexplainable intuition of a proper working service dog. I was at a public access test and watched as a Vietnam veteran str

uggled to stay calm while he was separated from his service dog. After only about 8 minutes they were reunited, and that Great Dane mix walked right over to him and put her big paw on his leg as if to say, “I’ve got you.” She let him stroke her head and grab her paw while he quickly settled down and his tremors subsided. I knew then I always wanted to be a part of this incredible, magical bond, even if it was just in some small way. I wanted to be a little more connected to the dogs and people who they were saving... because that's exactly how powerful this can be. I began K9 Service with A Twist, a 501c3, in April 2020 to support and inspire programs that focus on a second chance at life for military veterans, prison inmates, and shelter dogs. Small but mighty, K9SWAT.org trains a small number of service dogs and Battle Buddies for local veterans who suffer from social isolation and PTSD. Eligible dogs go through advance training to be partnered with veterans in need of an Emotional Support Animal or Certified Service Dog, completely free of charge. K9SWAT.org supports the veterans and their dogs with training and recertification throughout the dog’s life. K9SWAT.org also supports programs such as Paws In Prison, where dogs slated for euthanasia are paired with prison inmates for basic training and care while they await adoption. K9SWAT.org helps advance the education of those in the program by exposing them to the many facets of Service Dog Training to increase their chances of employment when paroled and decreasing the recidivism rate in prison. All donations go directly towards the care and training of the services dogs we have in the program.

Texas Media Maker Presents: AniFab 25 Documentary SHEPHERD BOY The Quiet Epic Life of Dogs on the Streets of Doha, Qatar - Filmmaker João Queiroga Attending

The truest magic in documentary cinema often lies not in spectacle, but in intimacy. This is the profound achievement of Shepherd Boy, screening as part of the How Many Dogs Do You Have? block at . This is a short film of immense power, a lyrical and heartbreaking portrait of coexistence that instantly transports the viewer far beyond the historic Woodlawn Theatre and onto the unvarnished streets of Doha, Qatar. Through masterfully nuanced visuals, director João Queiroga presents a world where the relationship between canines is stripped down to its most essential, immediate form: survival and companionship.

The film serves as an important, intimate mirror to our own local challenges. It forces us to confront the reality of life for homeless and working dogs in a foreign environment, yet finds moments of grace and quiet dignity within the harsh landscape. This is why we are particularly proud that the screening is partnered with K9swat, an organization dedicated to the highest levels of service and care for our veterans and their companion dogs. The juxtaposition of the raw, unsheltered dogs of Doha with the disciplined, life-saving service dogs of San Antonio creates a crucial dialogue, reminding us that every dog, regardless of its role or status, deserves guardianship and respect.

Join us for the, How Many Dogs Do You Have? block on Friday, November 28th, beginning at 5:00 PM. Following the block, we will host a vital Q&A session with director João Queiroga, providing a chance to discuss the film's international implications and local realities. Watching Shepherd Boy is an act of cinematic empathy—a chance to witness a beautifully crafted story that will resonate deeply and urge you to take action in your own community. This is storytelling that elevates the soul.

Today, we honor the brave men and women who have served our country with courage and sacrifice—and we celebrate the loyal K9 partners who now stand beside them. ❤️🤍💙

At K9 Service with a Twist, we believe that healing doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. Through our service-dog program, we’re proud to help veterans rebuild confidence, independence, and peace of mind with the help of a devoted four-legged companion.

Every leash we hand over represents more than training—it’s trust, understanding, and a new beginning. To our veterans, we see you. We thank you. And we promise to keep serving those who served us. 🐾🇺🇸

From the heart of our K9 family—thank you, Veterans.

K9 Service With A Twist and K9 Country Club & Training Academy found out last minute about a pop-up food distribution and asked if they wanted a little 4 legged support...so we headed out there. It was suppose to start at 2pm. We were getting there about 2:30 and I said, "I hope it's not over"... boy was i wrong😳. The line of cars were backed up to the AT&T Center exit. And the cops made them start hours earlier because it was backing up even further. Sadly we ran out with over 1000 cars left in line. But thanks to James Avery Artisan Jewelry and Mercy Chefs hundreds were given food for their family's. And thanks to Our Daily Bread Ministries we, along with Wish For Our Heroes Inc. handed out tons of flyers to those left in line that there will be meal boxes available to them the next day at a different location. Some understood, many were mentally broken... yet another day and another line they will need to wait in. It's a sad situation. The entire government needs to do better....I wonder how many of them are struggling to put food on there table!! This is a barbaric way to continue to run our country. And those who think it's OneSided....are OneMinded... this is a total failure driven by egos on both sides. and all government workers effected by this.
