The Kids Closet was opened, in loving memory of my husband, Junior Kennedy. Guthries Gap Baptist Church, where I am a member, started The Junior Kennedy Foundation for Kids. So when the Lord gave me the thought, to help kids, I came up with The Kids Closet. Helping those that need a helping hand. So I Started gathering kids closes. I went to resale store, yard sales, clearance racks, and got donati
ons from church, family and friends. Our church agreed to let me set up in our fellowship hall. So the word got out, and people started coming. There isn't any charge, we take clothing donations, bring in clothes that your kids have outgrown, and trade them for clothes that fit them. "PAYING IT FORWARD" When I would tell people this they just looked at me, and asked really? I know some people thought that I had completely lost my mind. How are you going to just give clothes away? I just knew that God had given me this mission, so I knew that he would make it work. Well, we outgrew the fellowship hall quick! So we started praying for a building, that we could afford. We found out about this building, talked to the owner, and agreed on renting it. Since we don't have any income, my church agreed to take up a love offering once a month, to pay the rent. We have always taken up more than enough to pay the rent. We cleaned, painted, made clothing racks, and moved in beside the BiLo market, on February 3rd 2014. Our Pastor and his son, had the sign made. Thanks Larry, Eric and Michelle for doing a great job designing it, it's perfect! I knew that this verse had to be on the sig, because through this store Juniors light is still shinning bright!. Mathew 5;16 LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE BEFORE MEN, THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS, AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN. After Church on January 26th 2014, the Church came to the store. We unveiled the sign, then came inside and had prayer, asking God to bless the store, and everyone that entered through the door. Which he has... more than I ever could have imagined.. Needless to say, I don't have to go to yard sales, or resale stores anymore. I have two resale stores that gives us the clothes that they don't sell, at the end of the seasons. We even have people that have yard sales, and give us everything that they didn't sell. Not to mention all of the clothes that are donated/swapped. We now have clothes for babies to mamaws and papaws. We truly could use a larger store. So I guess you could say that it's working!! Not that I doubted it for a minute. I want to thank Guthries Gap Church, and everyone that has helped in any way, and continue to give, to make this all possible. Like our Pastor Larry Miller says, "WHEN IT'S BETTER THAN THOUGHT,.. IT'S GOD!"
