As someone who’s interested in rocks, a self-proclaimed “rock hound”; I believe it’s very important to not spread misinformation. If you’re from the Tristate area, you’ll hear a lot of people calling a local Jasper Coprolite. Here’s what Coprolite actually is.

Spreading the correct information is not just about being right. It’s potentially saving someone from a bad deal when buying minerals, gems, fossils, Etc and more.

Do the research, even if you DO know what something is! You might learn something new and be able to spread that knowledge with fellow rock hounds and gem, mineral, and fossil enthusiasts.

Looking for fossilized dinosaur p**p? If so, they're called coprolites. But how do you identify coprolites? In this guide you learn what to look for

A message from our Secretary Mary Jackson:

Well great news: we get to start having meetings Oct. 19, 2021. There a few restriction and precautions that are new.
The officers had a meeting with City Bible Church (Sept 1) to go over the new requirements. We all need to help to accommodate their procedures. They are kind enough to let us use their facility and with Covid still around, we need to keep everyone safe; our club, as well as those who use church.

1. We have to supply disinfectant wipes/spray to sanitize –which will come out of budget.
2. All tables need to be wiped down with Clorox wipes
3. Use a dry cloth to wipe food and particles off chairs. Wipe metal parts of chairs
with Clorox wipes.
4. Empty trach cans and replace liners – condense the garbage into one bag if
possible to conserve bags and make sure you don’t forget bathroom trash.
5. Leave room in the same “set-up” as it is found. All tables are to be folded up, including round ones and put in racks. All chairs will be stacked specifically per diagram posted on wall. There are some chairs that have a rack under them.
6. If kitchen used, clean all hard surfaces with Clorox wipes and if spills on floor, spot mop with Clorox wipes.
7. Before leaving the facility, conduct a restroom check. This includes flushed toilets, cleaned spills and accidents, pick up paper towels or trash on floor and wipe mirrors if they have become excessively spotted.
8. Vacuum floor after all tables and chairs have been put back in original order.
9. Wipe down all hard surfaces and spray (Lysol) doorknobs, cabinet handles, and all
surfaces that have been touched.

On the note of safety, since we are not able to validate who might have gotten vaccinated - we need to wear masks, since we are in close confines of the room. This will include guests that may visit us and hopefully join. Until this pandemic goes away and all people get vaccinated this is the way we keep our members safe, since many of us are of the older generation and may have underlining healthy issues.

On that note we are no longer having snacks. You are more than welcome to bring your own for your own consumption. Again we can’t be sure of who might be a carrier or have Covid that we don’t want to spread by sharing food. We will not be making coffee but will supply bottle water and bottle sodas. If you chose to bring your own container of coffee/tea or favorite drink with you – that is your option.

Explore Collect Cut Polish

The objectives of our Club are; to promote interest in collecting rocks and minerals, to cooperate and aid each other in problems with cutting and polishing, to collect material for cutting, polishing and display, and to provide opportunities for purchasing, exchange and exhibition of specimens and material.

The Club schedules several field trips and outings each year from September through April - often two - three each month. There is always a local field trip the Saturday after each monthly meeting depending on weather. We have overnight outings periodically.

Our field trips are fun as well as educational. We are always looking for and going to new places. Within 120 miles of our chapter we have some of the best rock-hounding in the world. We have petrified & fossilized wood, Jasper, Agate, Geodes, Apache Tears, Crystals, marine fossils, Meteorites and Colorado River gravel deposits which contain everything, as well as many, many other types of material and specimens.

Members have, or have access to, or teach classes at the Mohave Community College with: lapidary equipment for cutting, shaping and polishing, that transforms the field find into a thing of beauty, or at least very nice landscaping rocks.
