We envision a sustainable economy that isn’t reliant on fossil fuels, and that yields benefits for all citizens of the earth. We are choosing to build a community that strives for justice and concern for all forms of life now and in the future, knowing that we are all one. Join us in the Climate Justice Coalition of Western NY as we initiate the next steps in our local and regional communities to
cut greenhouse gas emissions, to increase ‘carbon negative’ actions, and to ensure that the necessary shift to clean energy and creation of new jobs is inclusive and just. Rise Up for Climate Justice Campaign of 2015:
Before the end of 2015, the people of the world will know if their leaders will take action on one of the most critical issues of our time – climate change. The United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held in Paris Nov. 30 to Dec. 11, will determine the future for life on planet earth, our common home. The purpose of the Rise up for Climate Justice campaign is to
-- Raise awareness of the importance of the upcoming Paris Climate talks
-- Actively request our elected leaders and institutions push for moral action in Washington
-- Institute a series of climate actions that all of us can take
-- Showcase the significant efforts already being accomplished in Western New York
As people of the earth and as citizens of the United States, we demand CLIMATE JUSTICE
We expect the United States of America to be a leader in addressing climate change by drastically reducing our greenhouse gas emissions as an incentive for all other nations. We expect the United States to act with compassion toward all people of the earth who have been harmed by the impacts of climate change, the economic system and ecological damage we have promoted. As Pope Francis states in his Encyclical, Laudato Si, the earth is essentially a shared inheritance, whose fruits are meant to benefit everyone. We gather together, as different segments of our society, for a common agenda to bring sanity and justice to human life on earth, an agenda that is inclusive of all our missions. We build on Pope Francis’ Encyclical structure that focuses on life, justice, and compassion. We require a new and universal solidarity.
