Undaunted by rain, Guild members and friends were proud to again join Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper's spring cleanup Saturday morning, along the Scajaquada shoreline. Everything from discarded bottles to abandoned construction material got hauled to the curb. We believe in protecting our community!

After all the work to keep the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette alive, and the huge sacrifices made by the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh strikers, we hope the purchase of Post-Gazette by the parent company of The Baltimore Banner secures local journalism in Pittsburgh without harm to those who've given up so much for it.

Post-Gazette workers were informed on Tuesday morning that the publication was sold to the Venetoulis Institute, the owners of the Baltimore Banner.

Any discussion of AI in journalism should be done honestly. Don't brag, like this editor at cleveland.com did, that you're doing overworked journalists a favor by removing writing from their jobs. You've slashed the newsroom. You still need lots of content. You decide to employ a robot. Done.

This isn't (yet) an issue at The Buffalo News, but AI safeguards are important, which is why the Guild negotiated over the issue of artificial intelligence as part of its last round of negotiations.
