Buffalo Bert Predicts Six More Weeks of Winter at 13th Annual Buffalo Groundhog Day Celebration
Buffalo, NY – January 31, 2026 — Winter isn’t going anywhere just yet, according to Buffalo’s most trusted groundhog meteorologist. At the 13th Annual Buffalo Groundhog Day Celebration, Buffalo Bert officially predicted six more weeks of winter, delighting a packed crowd of attendees gathered at The Banshee Irish Pub on Saturday afternoon.
The highly anticipated prognostication ceremony, held at approximately 2:30 PM, once again showcased Buffalo Bert’s legendary forecasting skills. Known nationwide for his perfect 100% accuracy rate, Buffalo Bert delivered his prediction to cheers from fans celebrating Western New York’s favorite winter tradition. Andrew Kowalewski, Groundhog Day Society member stated, “Organizations dream of having a groundhog with a perfect accuracy rate, we are lucky, this city is lucky.”
The event, presented by Pasquale V. Bochiechio P.C., featured live music, animal exhibits, and plenty of fun as the celebration brought together community members, sponsors, and animal lovers for an afternoon of fun with a purpose.
Buffalo Groundhog Day continues to support local animal welfare organizations across Western New York, with all proceeds from the event benefiting regional animal charities. Since its inception, the Buffalo Groundhog Day Society has donated more than $70,000 to animal-focused nonprofits, reinforcing the event’s commitment to giving back. Buffalo Groundhog Day member, Christopher “Sleet” Flynn says, “Thanks to this party, the sponsors, and the fans of Buffalo Groundhog Day, this year’s donation will total over $10,000.”
“Buffalo Groundhog Day is about tradition, community, and supporting animals in need,” said Adam “ThunderSnow” Hernandez, a member of the Buffalo Groundhog Day Society. “It’s Buffalo. Buffalo is cold, but this city is tough, and no matter what the thermometer says, there’s a party to be had and a worthy cause to donate to, which is why we are happy to have thrown this event for thirteen years.”
