1st Story Sit-In of the year! Not many people out as it is very hot today. May try a little later next week. I gave away books to about eight children from toddler to grade 7! And told stories to four of them. Favorable and excited response from mothers. One boy almost jumped in the air when he got Green Eggs and Ham. "My favorite book! We have that in school!"
It's never about numbers but the quality of connection. A good day.

Continuing to reach those who need stories.
The shelter visit last evening was especially wonderful. Two older teen boys who were just sweethearts. One spoke no English, but there was someone on staff who could translate and I convinced him to try translating the story I told. He said his dialect was slightly different from the young man's, but he did a great job. Just a blast to watch him search for the right phrases, and make sounds and faces when words weren't enough. The other boy, who spoke English, was so patient as I told the story sentence by sentence. I think it was a good lesson for him in inclusion and kindness. Then we did an art project. The staff put his mom on speaker phone because she spoke the language better and she translated the art instructions. It felt like a wonderful community effort. Good lesson in the story, that even the staff person admired, and good lesson in the process of delivery. These are the times I feel most blessed.
