Lead Poisoning: A Hidden Danger in Your Home

Lead is an invisible danger that can have lasting effects on children’s health and development. In the Buffalo area, lead hazards are commonly found in older homes, especially in deteriorating paint and dust, soil, and some plumbing and drinking water systems.

Even low levels of lead exposure can harm a child’s developing brain and body, potentially causing learning difficulties, trouble paying attention, hearing problems, and other health concerns.

Protect your family:

Keep toys, hands, and surfaces clean.

Have older homes checked for lead hazards.

Remove shoes at the door.

Ask your child’s healthcare provider about lead testing.

Lead poisoning often has no visible symptoms, but prevention and early detection can make a difference.

Some connections last a lifetime.

Twenty years after leaving BPPN - Buffalo Home Visiting Program, Elizabeth recently stopped by our office to say hello and, most importantly, thank you.

Moments like these remind us that the impact of home visiting extends far beyond the program. The support, encouragement, and relationships built along the way can make a difference for years to come.

There is no greater reward for our staff than knowing they have made a lasting impact on a family’s life. This beautiful reunion between Elizabeth and her BPPN home visitor, Keyunne, is a heartfelt reminder of why we do what we do.

Elizabeth, thank you for coming back and reminding us that the seeds of support we plant today can continue to grow for a lifetime. 💜

Oh, the places children will go when we read with them!

Today, BPPN - Buffalo Home Visiting Program celebrated Dr. Seuss Reading Day with a fun-filled event that reminded us that a little reading can make a BIG difference in a child’s life! 📖

Why is reading so important?

📚 Builds little brains: Reading helps children develop language, vocabulary, and early learning skills.

💜 Strengthens bonds: Snuggling up with a book creates special moments of connection between parents and children.

🌟 Builds a foundation for success: Early reading helps prepare children for school and a lifetime of learning.

The best part? You don’t need fancy books or hours of free time. Just a few minutes of reading, talking about pictures, and sharing stories every day can make a lasting impact!

At BPPN, we believe that healthy beginnings start with loving connections, learning, and opportunities to grow. We are proud to support families as they build strong foundations for their little ones—one story at a time!

What’s your child’s favorite book? Share it with us in the comments! 📚👇
