Are you interested in becoming a foster parent?

Every month Gateway Longview offers virtual foster parent orientations on the first Tuesday at 6pm. Gateway Longview also provides National Training and Development Curriculum (NTDC) classes on Monday and Thursday nights from October 19 - November 19.

Both orientation and NTDC classes require attendees to pre-enroll. Reach out to Josh to sign up!

We recently spoke with Kevin and Nanette, foster parents who have been with Gateway Longview for 11 years. In their interview, they share their experiences and offer advice to those looking to foster.

"We had talked about becoming foster parents for a while, but like many, we didn’t know if it was for us. We are people of faith, so we prayed for guidance and wisdom as we considered whether fostering is the path God was leading us toward. Through much discussion with each other and our daughters, who were 13 and 10 years old at the time (and the girls giving us that extra push), we decided to start the foster care process."

1. What is your job title and where do you work?
Wraparound Care Coordinator at Symphony Circle

2. What is your favorite aspect of working for Gateway Longview?
My favorite aspect of working here is meeting all different families and learning new cultures, practices, and ways of life.

3. Do you have a favorite memory or experience from working at Gateway Longview?
My favorite memory working at Gateway is supporting families around the holidays through Holiday Hope. It can bring so much joy and relief to the families during what may be a very stressful time.

4. Describe yourself in 3 words.
Compassionate, resilient, and feisty

5. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love watching the Bills, trying new workout classes, cooking and baking different recipes, and trying all the amazing restaurants in the community!

Today is National Coming Out Day. According to a project run by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, more than one-third of youth of children in New York City Foster Care identify as LGBTQIA+. These youth also reported having more difficulties within the system than their peers and felt less supported by family. We embrace the truth of who people are, whether they are comfortable sharing that with others or not.
