In collaboration with WNY BloodCare, the Health Mentors Program is taking education beyond the classroom.

Working with school of medicine and School of Public Health from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and other UB health sciences schools, students are participating in a truly immersive experience. Instead of just studying symptoms, they are paired with individuals living with chronic blood disorders to learn about the "human" side of healthcare.

By listening to their health mentors’ stories, these future providers are learning:
•How chronic conditions impact daily life.
•The importance of the patient-provider relationship.
•How to look beyond the clinic to provide comprehensive care.

Over 175 students have already seen their perspectives shifted by this program. It’s not just about learning medicine; it’s about learning to listen.
