Well, yesterday's tour in the literal and physical heart of Buffalo was magnificent. We're grateful for Buffalo Water plant Engineer Pete Merlo's guiding hand at the helm of the plant and Matt Adam's attention to details as its assets manager. Then, to top things off, we got to witness the incredible GIS journey of the legendary Graham Hayes.

Map makers in 1950s. Before the release of AutoCAD in 1982, the process of creating engineering drawings was entirely manual. Engineers and drafters relied on a variety of tools, such as different grade pencils, erasers, T-squares, and set squares, to carefully craft their designs. Each line had to be drawn with precision, and any mistakes could require starting the drawing from scratch, which made the process time-consuming and often frustrating.

Did you know it's the bicentennial for the Erie Canal? Here is a great Storymap you can explore it's history.

Our club is working to revitalize the underknown Erie Canal site on River Road in the Town of Tonawanda. This Storymap helps you explore the canal virtually. If you click on the Western Region in the map, you can pan along the Niagara River to see how the canal paralleled the river due to it's "Swift" currents
