Community Solution Homicide Education Prevention Description

Dr. Frederick A. Gelsey, Sr. the Pastor of One in Christ Temple on Broadway suffered a personal family tragedy when he lost his son, Frederick Gelsey, Jr. to homicide about two years ago at age 31. The incident prompted him to forgive the young man who took his sons life but to take the painful experience to the next level. During the

sentencing of his son’s killer, Dr. Frederick A. Gelsey Sr spoke and forgave his son’s killer. In response the young man said “Thank you for forgiveness; I understand your family’s pain.” Later that evening a family member asked the question: “If he understood our pain, why would he put our family through the same pain”? At that moment, Dr. Gelsey Sr. understood that the young man did not understand their pain and education was critical to dealing with the issue of youth violence to help the community understand the devastating impact of violent media on people especially youth who are not give guidance to resolve conflict responsibly. As a result THEPP was inspired to create a solution to a problem of violence and materialism that has had a devastating impact since the inception of colonial chattel slavery in the American capitalistic society!
