The Foundry The Foundry is a creative makerspace and business incubator located on the East Side of Buffalo.

The Foundry brings together do’ers, innovators, and action seekers. We provide affordable work spaces for product-related businesses and dream about having weavers and welders, woodworkers and glassworkers, carvers and crafters, all under one roof, all experimenting with their craft, while helping to build their small enterprises. For many of us involved, we get new ideas and perspective from the organic process of discussion, debate, and exchange with the others we work with. We also offer educational opportunities and work with school age children, exposing them to alternative career options and providing opportunities to learn hands-on skills.

Today’s the day! Our students are learning the art of wood burning (pyrography) from our own Foundry Fellows! 🔥🪵

On Wednesday, October 14 and 21st, Artesanía Boricua Familiar is opening up their craft for a hands-on workshop with our Afterschool Program. Students will:

Hear the family story of how a love of Puerto Rican art and tradition became a business
See how a handmade piece goes from the workbench to the market table

☑️Burn their own design with real tools and guidance from our Fellows
☑️This is what the Creative Fellows Guest Speaker Series is all about: entrepreneurs from our own ☑️incubator showing the next generation what's possible, then putting the tools in their hands.

Help us keep these experiences going for our youth. Support The Foundry through the link in our bio.

Meet our Fellows: Dianiz and Wilfredo of Artesanía Boricua Familiar! 🇵🇷✨

This family-owned creative studio is part of The Foundry's business incubator, and they create their work right here in our building. Together with their daughters, Naomy and Camila González, they preserve and celebrate Puerto Rican art, history, and traditions through wood pyrography, macramé, miniature artisan houses, bilingual art kits, cultural projects, and community workshops.

They believe culture is meant to be shared, and on October 14 they're sharing it with our students, along with the story of how a family passion became a family business.

We're so glad to call them Foundry Fellows. Show them some love and explore their work at artesaniaboricuafamiliar.com 👉

How do you turn a passion, an idea, or a craft into a living? Our Foundry Fellows are living the answer. 🎨🔥

Introducing The Foundry's Creative Fellows Guest Speaker Series! Our Fellows are the makers and creative entrepreneurs in The Foundry's business incubator. They have their studios, workshops, and offices right here in our building, and this is where they create their products and grow their businesses every day.

This fall, they're stepping into the classroom to share their stories with our high school students in the Afterschool Program. They'll talk about how they got started, what it really takes, and what happens behind the scenes before a product hits the shelf or a piece of art goes up on a wall.

We're proud to have them in our community, and we're excited for our students to see what success can look like up close.

First up: Artesanía Boricua Familiar 🇵🇷, Wednesday, October 14 & 21st.

First week of Afterschool for High Schoolers is officially DONE!

Our new crew wasted no time. In a single session, students went from a blank piece of fabric to a finished pillow, cut, sewn, stuffed, and done before pickup. We did a lot of team build challenges, and even some video content we'll be sharing over the next few weeks. That's the Foundry way: you walk in, you learn, and you make something real.

During our daily community circle, students shared their hottest takes. A few that had the whole room talking:

Adults drinking milk is weird 😂
Schools should give every Friday off. Pop music is NOT it. EPIC: The Musical is where it's at.

This program is all about stepping outside the classroom to get real-world experience, explore career paths, build professional skills, and learn what it means to be part of a working environment. It's made possible by New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Project Rise, Erie County Youth Bureau , and the Cullen Foundation, who make it possible for our youth to learn, grow, and find their voice.🙌

Week 1 showed us this group brings creativity, confidence, and zero fear of speaking their minds, which is exactly what makes a great team. 💪

One week down, so much more to build. Follow along to see what this group makes next!
