I’m in New York City this week to take part in the High Line Network’s Policy Lab! Hosted by the High Line NYC in partnership with the Bronx River Alliance, this event will explore the practices that reconnect people, nature, and place. As part of this year’s theme of “Rewilding the Built Environment”, Thomas Rainer, a leading voice in ecological landscape design, will share how landscapes like the High Line are thriving amid ecological stress, transforming our parks and public spaces into vital habitats for a greener future. Thomas will be joined by Azzurra Cox, who will talk about the intersection of urban green spaces and belonging. RSVP to join the livestream on October 15th at 6:00 PM here: http://bit.ly/4gYDjs4

Join us next Wednesday, July 16, for our first walking tour of The Basswoods section of The Riverline. To register for upcoming tours, please go to https://TheRiverlinewalkingtours3.eventbrite.com.

Our small but mighty team took on the Bull and Creeping Thistle patches near Red Jacket Park on Saturday and emerged sweaty but victorious. Erie County and NFTA have been working on restoring this Buffalo River habitat since 1998. This 14-acre site of previously industrialized land now supports a diverse array of native plants and is a breeding ground for Monarch Butterflies. Not too long ago this land was 90% invasive plants that did not support our local wildlife. The tables have turned thanks to the work of volunteers who do the manual spot treatment to keep the invasive species at bay!
