CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
Help install temporary street improvements at three Buffalo intersections this June as part of the BUDC Temporary Intersection Redesign Project -a community-driven project bringing new murals, painted crosswalks, street furniture, planters, and wayfinding to Michigan Ave., Marine + Commercial, and Roosevelt Plaza.

Volunteers will help paint, assemble, and arrange temporary installations that make these sites safer, livelier, and a little more Buffalo. Whether you're handy with a paintbrush, good at moving things around, or just want to be part of something fun in your neighborhood, there's a role for you.
Come for an hour. Stay for the whole thing. Bring a friend.

We're working across two weekends:
Weekend 1: AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE CORRIDOR & CANALSIDE
Michigan Avenue: Friday June 5th 9-5, Saturday June 6th 9-1
Marine + Commercial: Saturday June 6th 1-5, Sunday June 7th 9-5
RSVP: https://lnkd.in/ejX6mSrq

Weekend 2: ROOSEVELT PLAZA
Friday - Sunday, June 26, 27, and 28 | 9am--5pm
RSVP: https://lnkd.in/eay63jcz

Please RSVP using the link for your preferred site so we can plan accordingly. More details will follow after you sign up.

Erie County and partners are hosting a free Safe Street Training for Towns and Villages on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The workshop will introduce municipal leaders, planners, engineers, and public work staff to the Safe Systems approach and practical strategies for improving safety across multimodal transportation networks. Because of differences in regulations, this training is for towns and villages only - we are hoping to provide a similar training for Cities in the near future.

This free workshop will examine how roadway design, traffic operations, and project coordination influence safety outcomes. It will provide practical tools that municipalities can use to reduce roadway conflicts, improve multimodal accessibility, and advance transportation projects that prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of the public. PDH, CM and LGT credits available to attendees.

Date: Tuesday May 12, 2026
Time: 12:30 – 1:00PM – Lunch (Pizza) and Refreshments provided, 1:00 – 4:30PM - Workshop
Location: In Person - Appletree Business Park, 2875 Union Road, Cheektowaga, NY 14227 or Virtual Available

Please see attached flyer and agenda for more information and register for the training here: https://tinyurl.com/SafeStreetTraining

Highlights from the Buffalo Career Trek!

Last Thursday, 16 MUP and BAED students from the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning got an inside look at the planning profession touring firms and agencies across Western New York, including:
LaBella Associates
Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority
Erie County Department of Environment & Planning
C&S Companies

At each stop, students heard directly from professionals about the projects shaping our region, heard about different career paths in planning, and got a behind-the-scenes tour of each office.

The tour wrapped up with a networking happy hour at Big Ditch Brewing Company, generously sponsored by the University at Buffalo Office of Alumni Engagement, bringing students and professionals together to connect and share experiences.

A team of UB Planning graduate students is conducting a focus group of WNY planners on current planning issues. The results of the focus group will be shared with Department of Urban and Regional Planning leadership to inform their upcoming strategic plan for continuing to make UB Planning offerings relevant to the planning field.

They seek WNY-area planners to participate in a 1-hour Zoom focus group on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 7th. The time (between 12p and 4p) will be determined by volunteer availability. Please consider this opportunity to inform the future of UB Planning and volunteer by filling out this Doodle poll by April 2:
