What a tremendous honor to have been nominated by a fellow World Trade Centers Association member for a 2024 Champions Award for Innovation. We work hard to find new ways to achieve our mission of growing trade opportunity for our members in our bi-national region, and to tell the story of Buffalo Niagara's strength in the global economy. We appreciate the nomination and hope we win!!!! (Though, the other five WTCs in our category - World Trade Center Institute, World Trade Center Bengaluru, World Trade Center Metz Saarbrücken (the ONLY other bi-national WTC), World Trade Center Taipei and World Trade Center Trieste are really awesome!!!).

Friday's 2023 WTCBN International Case Competition was an amazing time. Teams from Niagara University, University at Buffalo School of Management and Goodman School of Business - Brock University put their critical thinking and presentation skills on display, and all crushed it to the point where our judging panel lamented having to choose a winner! The competition is always such a treat.

In the end, it was the team from Brock University winning the day, carrying on their winning tradition with their 5th straight victory. Congratulations to the Brock students!

Thanks to John DeLuca and Liberty Pumps Inc for offering their storytelling to help us put together the case, which was a challenging one, focused on FTZs in China. John and his team did a great job preparing for the competition and, importantly, helping us keep the secret that Liberty Pumps was our sponsoring organization (we know that some of the teams like to try to guess who the company is ahead of time - we try to keep them on their toes!!!). Liberty Pumps generously offered as the first-place prize the chance to tour their facility in Bergen, and meet with their executive team... Looking forward to that!!!

Special thanks to our panel of judges - John DeLuca, N'ora Kalb, Kevin Jacobi, Rosanna Masucci, Damon Piatek and Linda Soltis - for taking on the unenviable task of figuring out which team was tops. We literally had to wrest them away from deliberations to make the call - that's how close it was this year.

Thanks to Bob Lytle, from Rel8ed Analytics, for serving as our keynote speaker. Bob captivated the students, and their robust Q&A with him kept the program going while our judges deliberated - exactly what we love in a keynote!

Special thanks to our sponsors for the 2023 Case Competition - Rich Products Corporation, Dynabrade, SPEED Global Services, Calamar and Niagara University. Thanks, also to Niagara for hosting, and putting out a pretty incredible spread for the reception!

This was our first Case Competition back in person since we pretty much closed up the world's events at the end of March 2020 with our 2nd annual event. While our virtual competitions were certainly competitive and enjoyable, the big piece missing was the reception... The ability for the students to interact face-to-face with not only the judges, but each other. That is incredibly rewarding for all of us, and we're already looking forward to our 6th WTCBN International Case Competition in 2024!

Canadian truckers will stay exempt from COVID-19 vaccine requirements at the border. Hopefully, both countries will continue to take a hard look at these requirements together to keep an already fragile cross-border trade ecosystem free-flowing.

Canada will allow unvaccinated Canadian truckers to cross in from the United States, reversing a decision requiring all truckers to be inoculated against the coronavirus, Canada's border agency said on Wednesday.

WTCBN President Craig Turner joins trucking industry leaders to offer warnings about significant challenges that are expected to result from the impending vaccine requirements for Canadian truckers.

The Canadian Trucking Alliance is predicting that 20% of Canadian truck drivers who do cross-border freight in the U.S. will stop crossing the border if a vaccine is mandated. It's about 22,000 drivers.
