Clean Mobility Buffalo exists because of relationships—because of people who showed up, sometimes publicly, sometimes quietly, to share knowledge, concerns, hopes, time, and more.

To everyone who has been part of this work—seen and unseen—thank you.

Real, lasting change happens when projects are rooted in relationship, not extraction. When community voice isn’t a checkbox, but the foundation.

The work continues, and we’re grateful to keep moving forward together. 💚

Clean, equitable transportation isn’t a single issue that can be advanced with just one project.

Creating sustainability and equity in the realm of transportation involves an ecosystem of interventions that—together, can help address the community’s needs.

The inner circle of the ecosystem includes direct actions that can make an impact, while the outer circle reflects additional actions that must be taken to create an environment where these interventions are possible and effective, and where communities are supported.

Clean Mobility Buffalo’s projects touch different parts of this ecosystem to create a larger collective impact, and we’re proud of the impact we’ve made in the past year and beyond.

Stay tuned for what’s to come as we continue to shift transportation equity!

Clean Mobility Buffalo is committed to empowering the next generation to imagine and shape a more equitable, sustainable future for Buffalo’s East Side. Our youth engagement efforts have created opportunities for young people to share their perspectives, learn new skills, and see themselves as changemakers in their own communities.

Through hands-on experiences that blend creativity, technology, and mobility education, we have supported youth in exploring the real connections between transportation, opportunity, and equity—while building confidence and tangible skills that carry far beyond the classroom.

Some of our recent youth engagement projects include:
🚲 Build-a-Bike After-School Program
🎙️ Mobility Matters Podcast Camp
🎥 Youth Mobility Shorts
…and more initiatives designed to spark curiosity, leadership, and imagination.

Because each one of our projects plays a vital role in building community leadership and long-term equity—and youth are essential to that work. They aren’t just future leaders; they’re leading now. Their ideas, questions, and creativity are shaping what mobility justice can look like for generations to come.

Safer, more accessible streets are coming to Buffalo’s East Side…and the work is already underway.

Through the Healthy Streets Initiative, GObike Buffalo worked with East Side residents to identify needed improvements like redesigning intersections, repainting crosswalks, adding curb extensions, planting trees, installing lighting and bike racks, and building the kind of infrastructure that makes it easier to walk, bike, take transit, or use a wheelchair to move through our neighborhoods.

Most of these improvements have been completed, and this is only the beginning.
In 2026, new bike lanes, traffic-calming measures, and a protected cycletrack will connect East Delavan, Fillmore Ave, and William Gaiter Parkway—improving safety and mobility across the corridor.

Together, we’re building a future where safe, people-centered streets are the norm, not the exception.

As we near the end of the year, we’re taking a moment to look back at how far we’ve come together.

From expanding clean commute options to improving walking and biking conditions, from investing in community-led decision-making to building a more connected mobility ecosystem across the East Side—this work is adding up. It’s showing what’s possible when neighborhoods, partners, and employers move with a shared commitment to equity.

Every rack installed, every new rider, every crosswalk repainted, every training delivered, every resident who shares their lived experience—all of it moves us closer to a Buffalo where getting to work, school, or care is safe, affordable, and accessible.

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made. And we’re even more excited for what’s ahead. 💚

Every day, thousands of people travel to work on Buffalo’s East Side.

For many, that trip hasn’t always been easy, affordable, or safe. Clean Mobility Buffalo’s Clean Commute program is changing that.

Through partnerships with the East Side’s largest employers, we’re expanding access to transit, biking, walking, and carpooling options that make commuting safer, less expensive, and better for our neighborhoods.

From free or reduced-fare transit passes, e-bike libraries, commuter support centers, and bike safety education, to infrastructure improvements and advocacy for better transit—Clean Commute is helping build a culture of sustainable mobility across the East Side.

Because how you get to work shouldn’t be a barrier to opportunity.

Buffalo’s East Side is home to vibrant, diverse, tight-knit neighborhoods with deep histories and an enduring spirit of resilience. And in these communities, one in three households walks, bikes, or takes public transit to work. This is a powerful reminder that sustainable mobility isn’t an abstract ideal here. It’s a lived reality.

Clean Mobility Buffalo is supporting and strengthening that reality. We’re bringing people together, investing in safer sidewalks and clear crosswalks, working to protect bike lanes and interconnected trails and create more reliable bus access and upgraded shelters. We’re stewarding projects in electric vehicle options, better commuting solutions, and community-driven infrastructure that reflects what residents need and deserve.

Follow along as we share more about recent projects and accomplishments. This isn’t just about transportation—it’s about dignity, access, opportunity, and a connected future we’re building together. 💚

Bike fatalities have risen in Buffalo since 2020, and as biking becomes more accessible on the East Side, safety has to rise with it.

Clean Mobility Buffalo partners are investing in bike education, community rides, and hands-on safety programming so that increased access doesn’t lead to increased injuries.

From youth bike rodeos, to mandatory e-bike safety classes, to weekly community rides that teach new skills—this work helps make biking a safer, more joyful option for everyone.

Clean Mobility Buffalo is investing in walkability, bike infrastructure, transit access, EV charging, micromobility, and community-driven solutions—because mobility justice starts with expanding what’s possible.

Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been building together:

E-Bike Library: Free pedal-assist bike rentals through East Side Bike Club, increasing access to low-cost, healthy mobility.

East Side Forward Pass: Reddy Bikeshare’s $3 annual membership for East Side residents—making everyday trips more accessible and affordable.

Healthy Streets Initiative from GObike Buffalo: Resident-led Complete Streets improvements, from safer intersections to fresh crosswalks and youth-informed street redesigns.

Electric Vehicle Car-Share Pilot: Launching this winter to bring an affordable, community-centered EV option to East Side residents with the support of neighborhood leaders as beta testers.

Clean mobility isn’t a single project. It’s a movement toward safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, and transportation systems that work for everyone.

Car dependency has been normalized for decades, yet the impacts are anything but normal.

A 2023 study found that people living in car-centric regions often don’t see (or can’t imagine changing) the harms of automobility. And that resistance doesn’t come from a lack of care—it comes from a lack of options.

The research is clear: the most effective way to reduce the impacts of car dependency isn’t to ask people to simply “drive less.” It’s to design communities where safer, more accessible, more affordable alternatives actually exist.

That’s why Clean Mobility Buffalo is investing in walkability, biking infrastructure, transit access, EV charging, micromobility, and community-driven solutions—because mobility justice starts with expanding what’s possible.

Where there are options, there is access; where there is access, there is opportunity. 💚

For more than 50 years—from the 1970s to today—public transportation funding has been a political battleground.

And while communities have called for reliable buses, safer sidewalks, better connections, and true mobility access… the majority of investments have gone in the opposite direction: deeper into car dependence.

That choice wasn’t neutral. It shaped where jobs could be reached, who could access healthcare or childcare, which neighborhoods would thrive, and which would be cut off.

And we feel the impact in Buffalo every day:
- 56,700+ households in our region don’t own a vehicle.
- 2,000+ households without a car don’t have access to public transit.
- On the East Side, nearly one-third of residents lack a personal vehicle.
- Transit riders—especially Black and brown riders—lose hours of their lives each week to long commutes.

When we talk about transportation equity, we’re talking about decades of disinvestment—and the urgent need to reverse it.

Clean Mobility Buffalo is working to build a different future: one rooted in access, connection, and community-designed solutions.

Because mobility isn’t a luxury. It’s opportunity and it’s health.
