Sigma Alpha Mu's Epsilon Lambda chapter is one of the most premiere fraternal organizations on the Buffalo State College campus. We are also one of the largest. 1) Friendship and Brotherhood: Members of Fraternities have and will form really strong friendships with fellow brothers throughout their years in college. We realize It's hard enough starting out at a new school possibly hours away from home. Our chapter offers all types of member’s whether you feel like hitting the gym, grabbing a bite to eat in the union, or just sitting down and playing a video game. We guarantee that you'll never feel alone here at Buffalo State College.
2) Academic Success: Getting good grades in college is very important and can be tough. It takes hard work, commitment, and knowing how to use the resources available to you. Sigma Alpha Mu offers a great network of members who have or may be taking classes that you may be having trouble in. They can also help you take advantage of campus resources such as the library, computer and labs, and job placement centers. While you are still ultimately responsible for your own success, many opportunities are opened up to you as a result of your membership. In fact if you finish a semester with a GPA above a 3.75 Sigma Alpha Mu rewards you with a $250 scholarship.
3) Leadership Opportunities:
When it comes to leadership we give every brother an equal opportunity to have a say. Through our electoral board and multiple committees, each brother holds an equal and important responsibility to help run the fraternity that affords you the opportunity for more hands on training in the operation of an organization. Whether it be planning social get togethers, brotherhood football games against other greek organizations, or planning an annual chapter budget that can range from a few hundred to well over to thousands of dollars. You will have a variety of opportunities at your disposal.
4) Giving back to the community:
Whether raising funds for a charity or volunteering your time to help others in the community, you'll see that Sigma Alpha Mu is committed to helping those in need. Last year we were able to combine our efforts to total over 400 hours of service. From volunteering to plant trees throughout the city of buffalo, to raising money for Alzheimer's community service is a fun and important part of the Sammy experience.
5) How do I go about joining? Sigma Alpha Mu is always seeking new members. Each semester we begin a process of meeting people and making friends called "rush." Recruitment offers you the chance to meet us and learn about what our fraternity offers its members. But most importantly it allows us to meet you!
