Drumroll, please...we are SO excited to introduce our new executive director, Megan Brenner-Zwara! Megan brings 15 years of strategic initiative leadership to the Table (see what we did there?) and has consulted for other nonprofit organizations in the area. Also a Licensed Master Social Worker, her social-emotional literacy makes her a natural fit for the community cafe space. Over the past couple of weeks she has jumped into her role with gusto, and we're delighted to have her expertise and warmth in the cafe. Happy birthday to our little yellow cafe! Five years ago, we kicked off pay-as-you-can lunch service on Hudson Street. If you have a favorite memory of Big Big Table over the past half-decade, share it in the comments!

A very special thank you is in order to some industry folks who recently used their talents to raise thousands of dollars for Big Big Table with a single Sunday lunch! September's lasagna fundraiser was made possible foremost by event sponsor and organizer (and dessert baker!) Pat Mleczko along with former Vino's owners Tony and Kathy Cangianiello, who volunteered their time to cook. Additional shoutouts go to Cellino Law for donating venue space at the Knox Mansion and to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for lending the event team their kitchen space to prep. We're blown away by this show of support!

If you've visited the cafe in the past year, you have likely had the pleasure of meeting our Guest Experience Coordinator Terrell. Been impressed with our fresh iced tea blend with house-made syrup, or had the good fortune of visiting on a day when macaron-infused coffee was available in the dining room? It's Terrell who stepped up our beverage program. Enjoyed the chill music in the dining room? That's all him.

And those are just the bonus responsibilities Terrell opted to take on in order to give our guests the most welcoming experience possible. Really, the heart of the Guest Experience Coordinator role is about directly engaging with people: ensuring that community members of all backgrounds and circumstances feel at home during their visit, holding space for the ups and downs in our regular guest's lives, and-- at the job's most serious-- de-escalating tense situations that arise on folks' toughest days. Terrell does this all with compassion, earnestness, and a good sense of humor, making it no surprise that one of the most frequent remarks left in our comment box is how included he made them feel that day.

It is bittersweet to share that Thursday 9/24 will be Terrell's last day as a Big Big Table staff member as he prepares to begin an exciting new opportunity. We're sure he'll bring to future endeavors the same commitment to community-building and vibe curation that made him such an essential part of BBT. We miss him already 💛
