🌱 Small Seeds. Bright Futures.

This summer, Roots to Rise brought young people together at The Square Community Garden & Farmer’s Market in East Buffalo to grow food, build skills, and contribute to their neighborhood.

Over six weeks, students explored gardening, soil health, composting, nutrition, and hydroponics while learning about financial literacy, leadership, teamwork, and career readiness.

From caring for vegetables to preparing food and learning alongside community partners, every experience offered an opportunity to put new skills into practice.

Thank you to our students, families, neighbors, funders, and partners for helping make our first year possible. We look forward to building on this foundation in 2027!

🌻 What a wonderful day at The Square Community Garden! 🌻

On September 5, 2026, Fillmore Forward hosted our Community Cookout Celebration—a joyful afternoon filled with delicious food, music, laughter, fellowship, and neighbors coming together.

More than 40 community members joined us, and we were blessed to distribute 25 backpacks to help local children prepare for the school year. The children enjoyed face painting and other activities, while a couple of our young entrepreneurs operated their own lemonade stand. It was wonderful to see their confidence, creativity, and business spirit on display! 🍋

The food from Chiavetta’s was great, and our outstanding DJ kept the celebration going with music that took us back in the day. There were smiles, conversations, dancing, and plenty of opportunities for neighbors to reconnect and make new friends. 🎶🍗

A very special shout-out to TC from Evening Star COGIC for his unwavering support. We also thank the Square Block Club, members of the Northland Beltline Taxpayers Association, our volunteers, and every community member who continues to support Fillmore Forward and The Square Community Garden.

Events like this remind us that a community garden is about much more than growing food. It is a place where relationships grow, children are encouraged, neighbors support one another, and the community comes together with a shared sense of purpose.

Fillmore Forward, Inc. invites our neighbors and community members to come together at The Square Community Cookout on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 12:00 PM–4:00 PM at The Square Community Garden & Farmer’s Market, 17 Rickert Avenue, Buffalo, NY.

Enjoy music, food while it lasts, a bookbag giveaway, and time with neighbors.

You can also learn more about the Square Block Club, which meets on the first Saturday of every month at 10:30 AM.
