Congratulations to our newest student and parent Community Health Worker graduates! We spent 4 days learning, growing, and building together and can’t wait to welcome this group into the work we do by families for families in Buffalo Public Schools as we enter the 26-27 school year.

"One of the students on hand, junior Aluail Bom, expressed that she wants to see a fear of judgment and shame removed when students express their thoughts and emotions. Not being able to do so creates an experience of feeling unsafe for students.
'Just being comfortable enough to say how they feel around adults without feeling embarrassed or ashamed for what they have to say. I think that's a start. Just watching the students be comfortable around other adults,' said Bom."

A Buffalo Public Schools community forum was held Tuesday at the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Buffalo that aimed to shift the focus back to families, and especially the children.

Congratulations to Desire Mahirwe, student co-chair of our CHW Parent and Student Association who graduated from Riverside High School yesterday and parent CHW leader Danielle Grzymala, whose son graduated from City Honors! 🎉

Desire was a member of Honor Society and student council, and was the recipient of his class Civics Award. He has been a leader and mentor in his school, Buffalo Public Schools, and our community- standing up for fairness and justice and amplifying youth voice and experience.

Danielle is also the co-chair of Buffalo Parent Teacher Organization, Parent Engagement Liaison at City Honors, and was the recipient of the BPS Superintendent Award in 2024 for her steadfast commitment to families throughout the district.

We are grateful to Desire and Danielle for all they have done to serve and advocate for so many students and families! We know they will continue to do great things and make BPS and our community a healthier, safer place for all. ♥️👏

And congrats to ALL BPS grads and their families!
